Beauty Vixen

Revlon recently sent me some products so that I could create my own Ethereal look. While the concept was a little out of my comfort zone, once I received the products I realized this was actually going got be very easy since I was already familiar with all of them.
Colorstay Full Cover Foundation: 110 Ivory
This foundation is fantastic. I cannot say enough good things about it. It is a full coverage, long lasting and self-setting foundation that doesn't get dry on me. I love that it is in a tube, so I can control exactly how much comes out and it isn't bulky.

The texture of it is a bit fluffy and almost mousse-like, but not quite. It can be built up to a solid medium coverage and works well dabbed over any blemishes to cover them up. I like to either use a buffing brush or a sponge to apply it. My skin is super dry and it never looks cakey or flakey on it, I always get good results.
PhotoReady Galaxy Dream: Holographic Highlighting Palette:
This palette was featured in my Favourites of 2018 and for good reason, I love it. It features four shades of highlight that can be used together in so many ways to create fantastic looks. There is a pink, grey, green and purple shade in the palette.

I really love adding the green to my brow bone. The pink and purple shades mixed together in place of blush and the silver almost like a contour (just below my blush).
I know this doesn't pop in the photos, but it looks fantastic in person. There is no shimmer to the palette so it works really well if you don't like shimmer or glitter. It also makes it much more wearable for day to day looks. It makes you look like you are glowing without the need for glitter.

ColorStay Creme Eyeshadow: 755 Licorice & 760 Earl Grey:
I love a good cream eyeshadow and love that Revlon has launched these babies. Not only are they amazing quality that is just as good, if not better than my high-end shadows, they also make some pretty fun shades. While all the other ones I have in my collection are matte, these two are metallic, making them perfect for my look.
I used the light silver Earl Grey shades in my inner third of the eye. I then applied the darker silver shade, Licorice to the outer third of my eye, crease area and my bottom lash line.  I then buffed it with a brush out and added some mascara and I was done.
Earl Grey on the left and Licorice on the right.
I really loved how these applied, how creamy they were, how they blended and stayed put all day long! These two shades were so shimmery and fantastically perfect for the look. Even though they are metallic, they don't feel gritty, which is another great sign of their quality. They even come with their own little brushes that slide into the lids.

Kiss Cushion Lip Tint: 290 Extra Violet & 230 Naughty Mauve
These are some interesting lip products. They click up through a sponge and you can dab them on. After they set (about 10 minutes), they stay put and have a dry finish. They definitely are a comfortable product to wear.

I have two shades, but I chose to use the deeper Extra Violet shade for my look.
Naughty Mauve on the left and Extra Violet on the right.
The look:
So here is my finished look. My skin is matte and has some decent coverage without the need of any concealer.
My cheeks feature a variety of shades of highlight to give it depth, colour and an interesting glow without shimmer.

My eyes are the focal point, lots of shimmer and glow that radiate out into a fade that is topped off with some green highlight under the brow bone.

Finally, a nice deep lip shade to give some contrast between the lighter eyes and cheeks.

I really love how this look turned out, I feel it has an out of this world glowy look that is wearable any time of the day.
What do you think of the look? Do you like to go a bit out of your comfort zone from time to time?

Ever since I coloured my hair purple (yeah for purple hair), I've been wearing more purple. It seems to naturally look good on me, and now it just happens to play up the purple on my hair, so why the not?
Since purple and lavender shades look just about good on every skin tone, I thought I would share with you some of the purple lip items I've been loving and show off some of my lipstick collection.

I am going to show you the tube/sticks and then swatches below.  If there happens to be a blog review about any colour already on here, I will make the name of the shade link to it.

Lipsticks
Left to right in both photos:
Joe Fresh Baie Sauvage (cream), Stila Gemma (colour lip balm stick), Bite Barberry (matte creme), Bite Mauvember (luminous creme), Buxom Swinger (cream), Cover Girl Vixen Violet (long lasting cream-gel), Maybelline Violet Vixen (opaque cream)
Left to right for both photos, all are from Mac:
heroine (matte), plumful (luster), Evening Rendezvous (matte), Plum Princess (matte), Rebel (satin).
Cubbie Sticks:
Left to right in both photos:
Bite Aubergine (matte creme) Wet n Wild LieLac (matte), Revlon Darling (gloss stain), Revlon Shameless (matte balm)
Glosses and Stains:
left to right for both photos:
Stila Fuchsia Vinyl (long lasting gloss), Joe Fresh Baie Sauvage (long wear liquid lipstick), L'oreal Berry Persistent (stain gloss), Wet n Wild That's My Jam (gloss), Buxom Pucker Up (gloss), Hard Candy Wisteria (matte gloss), Revlon Parisian (stain), NYX Sugar Cookie (gloss), Urban Decay Bittersweet (gloss), Almay Just Plum (gloss).
So there you have it, my purple lipstick and gloss collection.  Some of these items have been discontinued or were limited edition, but it is still a great look at how one colour can vary so much.

Do you have any favourite purple items in your collection?

Why not do another Empties post? Here are 10 more I'm tossing out.
  • La Mer Foundation: I'm going to be 100% honest here. I have no clue what foundation by La Mer this is or what colour it is. What I do know is, it is small, it is a sample, a client gave it to me and it never suited my skin tone so I never used it. Not once. Would I buy it again? No, I never tried it.
  • Elf Essentials All Over Colour Stick: At one point I had all the colours. I really liked them (at one point) but they have such a bad fake orange scent. They also get gross quickly, the cases crack and they just look horrid. I also honestly felt I tossed these quite a while ago...why do items keep on ending up back in my drawers? Would I buy it again? No, while they are good for newbies or someone who wants a tiny foundation, they get messy quick.
  • Elf Mineral Eye Brightner: I love this stuff! It is perfect for setting the concealer  and foundation under your eyes. Unlike the Studio version, this one has no shimmer in it. It is just great. Would I buy it again?Yes, I have another one on the go right now.
  • Joe Fresh Lip Tint in Bubble Gum and Crush: I got these a few summers back. I really love lip stains and the idea of brighter stains to help prolong brighter lip sticks is great idea. These have a slightly gel like texture though and quickly evaporated inside the tubes. If that wasn't strange enough the lids cracked. While they were just caps and the real wand lid was still intact, it was the only place with the shade names on it, so I kept the unsightly cracked lids. Would I buy it again? Not sure, I liked the idea, I wish there was more colour payoff though and better consistency. Plus do they even make them anymore?
  • Elf Studio Wrinkle Refiner: I don't know what to say about this one. Click, click, apply on wrinkles, watch them go matte. Apply makeup and watch it peel and ball off. {insert strange facial expression here}.Would I buy it again? No, it is just a crap product. CRAP.
  • Benfit Benetint: The iconic Benetint. Oh how I adore you. I've had this bottle forever! And Ever! So I have chosen to toss it. But I don't want to. Would I buy it again? YES! I have a few mini containers of it already and opened up a new one. So I am not without it.
  • L'oreal Total Repair Extreme Ultra-Concentrated Urgent Repair Care: This little tube with do wonders for your hair. Wonders I say! My hair can get pretty darn damaged, and using this once and a while makes it feel so much better. Would I buy it again? YES! I have 2 more tubes in my washroom for emergency use.
So that's another round of Tossing 10. I'm feeling good. Anything you've tossed lately?

Red lip season has descents upon us, and while many of us just at the chance to sport this gorgeous look, other run scared, feeling intimidated by it.

I hope to show you today what I believe to be is the best way to apply a red lip and how to make it easier for those who just cant get it right or are intimidated by it.

1. Stain your lips
As you wear a red lip, it will fade, usually in the centre first. If you stain your lips this helps keep  the colour put longer. It also gives you a great base layer of red.

I personally love Sephora's lip stain or Balmshells, they are deep and dark and look great on their own.

Bonus tip: I let the stain absorb and will apply it two or three times before moving on for maximum saturation of colour.

2. Line your lips and fill them in
This is an important step, for a few reasons. One, lining prevents feathering and smearing of the lipstick outside the lip area. Two, by filling in your lips all over (seriously coulour all your lips, not just the rim) you prevent that fading in the centre and stop you from having just having liner left on your lips when the lipstick fades away.

I love Annabelles liners, they come in any shade you could dream of and are pocket book friendly.

3. Reverse line your lips.
This prevents you from smudging outside your lips and gives it more definition and that sharp wow look.

Line the outside of your lips with a pencil that matches your skin tone, then blend out with fingers. You can do this before all the other steps if you want or even at the end.

I love Cargo's Reverse Lip Liner or Mac's Pro Chromagraphic Liner in nc15/nw20.

4. Use a lip brush
This one sounds dumb, but it makes a real difference. You apply it accurately and wont get it somewhere stupid. It also keeps you from putting too much on.

Now if you want, blot and re apply lipstick. You can also put a bit of translucent powder over it to set or go the opposite route and gloss it up.

I hope this helped a few of you out there. I personally believe there is a red lip out there for everyone and everyone can wear a red lip! So, go out there and try one out today.
