Beauty Vixen

A long time has passed since I last did a Project Pan 2020 update so I thought I would just go ahead and do it now.

The long and short is I quit. I was doing ok when I did my last update, then I went back to work and barely had time to do anything and everything was taking so much energy. I rarely wore make and when I did try to use my Pan products felt forced and horrible. I want to be creative and have fun when I wear makeup and it felt so restrictive. Plus so many products were lip based, and no one is seeing my lips with my mask on.

There are some product I am still using daily, like the Joe Fresh Loose Powder, I use that all the time. I have almost used up my Schwarzkopf BC Conacure pH 4.5m Color Freeze Spray Conditioner, so that is some progress. The Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum, I used that up! So that felt good.
So yeah, I stopped doing my project pan and I feel a bit of guilt but also relife. For now, I am winging what I wear. A win for 2020 and a loss for me? Maybe, but I am ok with it.

2018 has wrapped up and we are into a new year. I thought I would give a roundup of my favourite items from this past year. I honestly have loved a lot more than just what I am listing, but this was what I thought was all I could blog about in a year-end roundup.
Smashbox Primer Oil:
I have had this one a long time, but this year I really learned to love it. I started mixing it into my foundations and it has really helped with my skin not looking flakey when applied. I also got the NYX version, which I must say I like exactly the same amount, I am just trying to use this one up first.

ELF Hydrating Booster Drops:
I picked these up a few months ago and it has been amazing how fast I have used them up. I add a bit of this serum/gel into my foundation and it makes it so much more hydrating and my skin plumper. For a value brand, I have been really impressed with it.

Hard Candy Sheer Envy Coconut Water Primer Stick:
I picked this up at the same time I got the booster drops, and I instantly fell in love. I really wanted to try the Milk stick that is similar but didn't want to pay the price. This was about $10 so I couldn't resist. It applies watery and smooth while instantly cooling the skin. I find it works well as a light primer
L'oreal Lumi Glotion*:
I have this in a Fair Glow and Medium Glow, both are great but Fair Glow is my favourite. I mentioned it in my summer favourites and it still stands. I love to apply it before my foundation for more of a glow (but not too much of one). It looks quite nice on my skin.

L'oreal Lumi Glow Amour Boosting Drops:
I also have this one in two shades, Golden Hour and Daybreak. Daybreak is the lighter and more pinky shade and it works really well on my skin. I add a small amount to my cheekbones, above the lip or wherever else I want some highlight and it does a great job. I like to add it sometimes under my foundation really get it to look more toned down.
Joe Fresh Cushion Lipstick:
I picked this up on sale while Joe Fresh was exiting Shoppers Drug Mart. I got the shade Tulip which is really pretty deep mauve shade. It has a sponge applicator and gives that powder finish to your lips that so many brands are loving right now (Buxom, NYX, etc).
Dermalogica Barrier Defense Booster*:
My skin has been so dry this year! All year! It has been frustrating as all hell. I have to thank this serum for helping me at least keep my skin calm. I will say it took me 3 months to realize the grey bottom is soft and you can press it to release the product. I had been shaking it out before that.

L'oreal Revitalift Cicacream*:
I don't know what to say about this, but it is a day and night cream that my skin has really been liking. I don't need much and it is a great anti-ageing and hydrating formula.

Acure Argan Oil*:
I only have a few pumps of this left, which should show how much I adore it. It works so darn well. There is just something about this oil's texture that works so well on my skin. Plus there is a pump, which makes using any oil mess free.
ELF Prismatic Highlighting Duo:
I picked this up in Mermaid Tail. One side is a peachy pink highlight and the other a blue tone. Both are very iridescent and microfine in their shimmer, which is exactly what I want in a highlighter (no chunky shimmer, that is the way to go). It builds well so you can go light to strong without much effort. Every single time I wear it I get compliments. I love to wear the peach on my eyes for a lazy makeup day.

Before this, I was not sold on blue or peach highlighters, and now I hooked.
Revlon Galaxy Dream*:
This palette features four shades of holographic highlighters. The shades in the palette are pink, green, purple and silver. I really appreciate the size of the pans (quite big), the shade varieties and the fact it is so finely milled (once again no glittery shimmer bits). All the shades work really well on my skin and add a nice pop of highlight, but they also can be mixed together which I really enjoy too.

Urban Decay Naked Piette Heat Palette:
I picked this up at Sephora when they had their spring sale, and I was really glad I did. with 6 matte shades, I get a lot of use out of it since I don't really wear any other shadow finishes to work. They are all burnt orange/red shades that I think blend out well. I actually wish I never picked up the Naked heat palette because I use this one more and it is completely redundant now.

Nars Hot Escape Eye and Cheek Palette:
I picked this one up during the Nordstrom anniversary sale (as well as a bunch of other things I probably didn't need). I really love the shadows in it as well as the highlighter and blush. I have gotten so much wear out of it that I just had to mention it.

Do you have any products that stand out as favourites for you from 2018?

It is full blown fall right now, and as much as I am enjoying my Pumpkin Spiced everything I am actually anxiously awaiting Gingerbread season. In the meantime, here are some items I am loving right now.

NYX Powder Puff Lippie in Puppy Love:
I picked this up at my Rexall in the spring and started wearing it pretty much non-stop this fall. It is a tube that comes out a sponge tip applicator that leaves a soft look on the lips. It has a strange powdery like texture to it that feels dry. It happens to be really pigmented too. Puppy Love happens to be a nice coral shade.

Dermalogica Barrier Defense Booster:*
I started using this baby in the winter, now that summer's humidity is gone I am reaching for it again. My skin gets dry quickly and can get chapped and red fast. A little of this booster and my skin is instantly soothed and less red. I just adore it. Funny note, I have been shaking this stiff bottle to get out the product for months only to learn the grey bottom is soft and you just have to tap it to get the product out. I feel so silly.

Joe Fresh Tinted Lip Balm:
I love this tinted lip balm, so when I learned Joe Fresh was leaving Shoppers Drug Mart and all the items were 75% off I stocked up. Don't worry, Joe Fresh beauty products aren't going anywhere, they just won't be in SDM anymore. I really love how silky the balms feel, their light scent and how pigmented they are. I recently got my mother in law hooked on them because she wanted something that was like a lipstick but sheer and hydrating.
Left to right: Pecan, Lychee, Spice, Macaroon and Blackberry.

L'oreal Brow Stylist Boost & Set:
L'oreal has never, ever let me down in the brow category, this product is no exception. I picked it up on sale at my local Shoppers and do not regret it one bit. I love this little bent wand, it helps me apply the brow mascara just where I want and not on my skin. The formula helps build up my brows while tinting them just right. I think I may pick up the shade darker next time I see it on sale

Guerlain Meteorites:
So you may have seen in the past that I love Guerlain's Meteorites. I often pick up limited edition versions and even have their perfume (it smells just like them). Lately, I have been trying to actually use them more often, so I have been finishing off my makeup every day with 01 Blanc De Perle. It mainly is white pearls. It adds a nice glow to my skin and smells amazing.

So there you go, five more items I am loving.

What are you loving this fall?

Recently all I have been crazing is an amazing glowy highlight. While I do have quite the collection of high end highlighters, I also have a bunch of drug store ones that I absolutely adore.Today I am looking at some of the more affordably options in my collection.

Essence Pure Nude Highlighter ($5.99)
I had heard so many amazing things about this hightlighter I just had to try it. Essence is a pretty darn decent value brand and heck Temptalia even gave it an A-, which is pretty impressive for any highlighter. It took me about 6 months until I found a store that actually had it in stock, but I am so glad I found it. I love it. Not too light or dark, it is almost my skin tone, but gives a gorgeous illuminating glow without the need for sparkles particles. Just pure glow here.
Essence is online, at Shoppers Drug Marts and Lowblaw's stores.

Gosh Contour n Strobe Kit
This strobe kit is my everything right now. Every single time I wear it I get complements on my highlight. Very similar to the Essence in tone and glow, it also comes with some blush that is pretty nude and glowy and two contour shades. Together these shades make an all in one that is just fantastic. I love it so darn much. You can play up or down the glow depending on the look or mood you are going for, making it super versatile.
Gosh can be found at Shoppers Drug Mart.

Hard Candy Just Glow! Baked Illuminating Duo in Candle Lit
This is a duo that attempts to dupe the luminescent look of Hourglass Ambient light powders, but at a much better price point. I have an Ambient powder in Mood Light and honestly cannot get it to work on my skin at all. These come with two shades, one a bit more glowy and one more matte (? more like the Hourglass), but neither are over the top or over pigmented. They work together really well or on their own. Hard Candy makes two version of it, Candle Lit (lighter and less shimmery ) and Twinkle Star (a bit darker and way more shimmery). I really like Candle Lit and don't really like Twinkle Star, it is just too shimmery and gritty in its shimmer. Click here to see some swatches of it and a bit more details.

Hard Candy can be found at Walmart.

Glow All The Way Baked Bronzer
I have been through oh so many of these, not because I used them up (they are massive, that isn't an easy task), because the packaging keeps on breaking. Hard Candy's one downfall is the hinges always break on me. But they are cheap so when I see them in stock (after months of looking) I'll just re-buy it. Tiki is the lightest shade of this technically bronzer, but it matches my skin tone to a tee (mac Nw/Nc 15 by the way). To others with anything but pale skin it will make a great highlight. Since it matches my skin tone it adds the perfect glow.

Hard Candy Glow All The Way Baked Trio
I have this in 3rd wheel, and while I love it there is still that packaging issue that many Hard Candy items have (they break). It has a blush, highlight and bronzer all in one that work pretty well on my skin tone. The price point for the product makes it prety amazing, plus it covers blush and bronzer at the same time giving it extra value. They make other shades too, and while I like them , I can only justify having one in my collection right now or I risk going into complete hoarder territory. Want to see some swatches, click here.

Joe Fresh Highlight Powder in Luster

There isn't a whole lot to be said about this one, it is a powder highlighter that looks fantastic. It is a but more pigmented then others in my collection and runs a tad bit on the orange side. It looks great in the summer or when you want a more bonzy highlighter.

Joe Fresh is found at both Shoppers Drug Marts and Loblaw's/Superstores.

Joe Fresh Highlighter Stick in Pink Pearl

Another fantastic highlighter from Joe Fresh. It is pretty hard to find an amazing drug store cream highlighter, making this one extra exciting. Pink Pearl has somehow become my go to cream highlighter. It has zero chunky bits of glitter to it, and has an amazing light pink colour to it. It blends amazingly well and gives you a gorgeous glow. You can also find it on a few other shades, but this one is my absolute favourite.

Wet n Wild to Reflect
I love these. They used to only be available in the USA under the Fergi line. I picked one up about 4 years ago in Boston and fell in love. When they re-branded the line and launched it here in Canada I went and got all three shades. They are a beautiful baked highlight/blush that has natural swirls of colours in it. If you love Mac's mineralized skin finishes but want to save some money get theses. They are just as good if not better and wayyyyy cheaper. I personally really love all of them, but Boozy Brunch with its gold, bronze and pink makes such a beautiful colour when combined I cant help but feel love towards it. It also has the most gold tones in it, making it so much more of a highlightery shade. I also love the drinky names (I'll have a cosmo, too cute).
Wet n Wild  MegaGlo Highlighting Powder
If you want to glow, and I mean glow, this is the highlighter for you. It is practically metallic. You think it is just an overspray, but it isn't, the whole pan is like that. *insert squeal here*). This is by far the most stunning highlight I have seen in a long time, there is a reason it is hard to find.

Do you have a favourite drug store highlighter? I clearly have a few.

Joe Fresh has just launched a bunch of new products for spring. I was lucky enough to get a few items to try out and am going to show you some swatches and reviews. Here we go.

Universal Brow Crayon ($12)
This is a fat eyebrow pencil that comes in just one universal shade. It is waxy so it helps set your brows exactly how you like them while colouring them in nicely. I was hesitant that the universal shade would look great on me with my darker hair, but it looks fantastic. Since it is a twist up, you don't have to worry about sharpening it. While it works well on me I am not sold on it working for someone with darker hair or looking for a darker brow look. I really do wish it came in a few shades.

8 HR Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner ($8)
Everyone loves a nice gel kohl liner, right? I know I do. These new 8 hour liners are smudgable but last 8 hours. They also come in an incredibly Navy and Burgundy.

Eyeshadows ($6 each or 2/$10)
Joe Fresh's shadows have always been a favourite of mine, I have purchased so many over the years I lost count. I even once did a post on how to depot them (it isn't easy, it involved a soldering iron, and I haven't tried it since 2011).

This spring there are some amazing new neutral and metallic shades. The mattes blend well and are richly pigmented while the metallic are creamy and just plain fantastic. Cinnamon and Cocao are matte while Pretty Penny, Champagne and Meteor are metallic in finish.

These shadows go on super smooth and blend like a dream. I have applied them with a fully crease brush for a more sheer wash of colour or packed it on with a flat brush for more opacity. Either way it always works out great and they look amazing. There also isn't much fallout or fly away product no matter what type of brush you use.

Highlighter Stick ($10)
This illuminating stick stick in Pink Pearl glides on to the skin to create a beautiful soft pink glow. It transforms from a cream to a powder after blending and look fanatic on the skin. I love how this one glows, such a pretty shade. It also goes on the skin super easy and blends out while keeping the look. I personally think you can skip your powder highlighter when you use this baby.

Tinted Lip Balms ($12)
Nothing beats a tinted lip balm, except a tinted lip balm that has a great flavour to it. Loaded with Grape Seed, Maracuja, Sunflower, Rosehip and Avocado oils as well as Shea Butter these lip balms are loaded up with lip nourishing goodness. With 10 flavours with slight tints to them there is probably one that you will like. I've been trying out Lychee, which I am in love with (I really love lychees).  I find the formula really hydrating and smooth, it isn't thin in constancy so you know it is going to hang out a while on the lips. It also packs quite the colour punch for a tinted lip balm, sometimes you get weak shades that don't show on the lip, but these definitely do.
Today's look features Cinnamon eyeshadow all over the lid and Meteorite eyeshadow  on the outer half to create a brown and grey look as well as the blue liner. I also used the highlighter on my cheeks and under by brow bone, brow pencil and lip balm.

The only other items I used were Joe Fresh's Hydra Lash Mascara and a classic bush of theirs from my collection, Buff (which I am sure no longer exists but I still love).
Overall, I like all Joe Fresh's new items, a lot. If I had to have must tries it would be, the new shadows, highlighter stick and the tinted lip balm.

Have you tired any of these new items from Joe Fresh? What would you like to try out?

Ever since I coloured my hair purple (yeah for purple hair), I've been wearing more purple. It seems to naturally look good on me, and now it just happens to play up the purple on my hair, so why the not?
Since purple and lavender shades look just about good on every skin tone, I thought I would share with you some of the purple lip items I've been loving and show off some of my lipstick collection.

I am going to show you the tube/sticks and then swatches below.  If there happens to be a blog review about any colour already on here, I will make the name of the shade link to it.

Lipsticks
Left to right in both photos:
Joe Fresh Baie Sauvage (cream), Stila Gemma (colour lip balm stick), Bite Barberry (matte creme), Bite Mauvember (luminous creme), Buxom Swinger (cream), Cover Girl Vixen Violet (long lasting cream-gel), Maybelline Violet Vixen (opaque cream)
Left to right for both photos, all are from Mac:
heroine (matte), plumful (luster), Evening Rendezvous (matte), Plum Princess (matte), Rebel (satin).
Cubbie Sticks:
Left to right in both photos:
Bite Aubergine (matte creme) Wet n Wild LieLac (matte), Revlon Darling (gloss stain), Revlon Shameless (matte balm)
Glosses and Stains:
left to right for both photos:
Stila Fuchsia Vinyl (long lasting gloss), Joe Fresh Baie Sauvage (long wear liquid lipstick), L'oreal Berry Persistent (stain gloss), Wet n Wild That's My Jam (gloss), Buxom Pucker Up (gloss), Hard Candy Wisteria (matte gloss), Revlon Parisian (stain), NYX Sugar Cookie (gloss), Urban Decay Bittersweet (gloss), Almay Just Plum (gloss).
So there you have it, my purple lipstick and gloss collection.  Some of these items have been discontinued or were limited edition, but it is still a great look at how one colour can vary so much.

Do you have any favourite purple items in your collection?
