Beauty Vixen

With the success of The Ordinary's Hair Density serum they have gone ahead and launched a full line of hair care products. There is now a shampoo (and body wash), conditioner and a moisturizing scalp serum. As a huge fan of the Multi- Peptide serum I jumped at picking up the rest of the products to see what they were like. Of course I did this when they first launched in 2022 and am finishing this post almost an entire year later, which is just silly of me.
The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density / 60 ml / $19.50
This concentrated formula is designed to support hair health so that it looks thicker, denser, fuller and healthier. The technologies present in this formula include REDENSYL™ complex (with Larix Europaea Wood Extract and Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract), Procapil™ peptide complex (with Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1), CAPIXYL™ peptide complex (with Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3 and Trifolium Pratense Flower Extract), BAICAPIL™ complex (with Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Triticum Vulgare Germ Extract and Glycine Soja Germ Extract), AnaGain™ (Pisum Sativum Extract) and High-Solubility Caffeine (1% net Caffeine by weight), in an ultra-lightweight, emollient base for efficient penetration. The total concentration of these technologies in the formula by weight is 21.15%.
First off, I love this stuff ❤️. I really truly do. I've been using it steadily since half my hair fell out in 2020 and it really makes a difference. My understanding is we are always being attacked by free radicals and antioxidants help combat that. This serum is a bunch of antioxidants for your scalp, which helps with the general health of your scalp and with things like density and greys. Is it a miracle worker? I've got no clue, but it did help with the stress my scalp was under and it's pretty darn cheap. I've mailed some to both my mother in-law and sister in-law and the hubs uses my bottle. I use it and recommend it.
Natural Moisturizing Factors + Hyaluronic Acid Scalp Serum / 60 ml / $14.00
Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA for Scalp is a milky serum that contains a combination of ingredients that mimic the function of natural moisturizing factors (NMF), as well as hyaluronic acid (HA) and squalane that are naturally produced within the skin. With regular use, this formula supports hydration through scalp skin barrier protection.
This is a thin and milky formula, which was not what I was expecting at all (despite it saying this in its description, I guess I did not read it at all when I bought it). It is supposed to be like The Ordinary's best selling Natural Moisturizing Factors HA+ and Squalane together, but for the scalp. It is great for my scalp come the summer, when I get itchy and swim almost everyday.

I used it a few times when I thought my scalp was itchy, but I honestly found it way too runny. I really like the texture and constancy of the density scalp serum and just generally prefer it. Truthfully I will probably use it more now that warmer weather is here because in the summer my scalp gets incredibly itchy.
Sulphate 4% Shampoo Cleanser for Body & Hair / 240 ml / $8.70
Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Body and Hair offers a gentle-is-essential approach to effectively cleanse body and hair. The low foaming product contains SLES-2, a milder sulphate that has been incorporated into the formula to be gentle on the skin, and cleanse hair without additional colour fade. The molecular structure of SLES-2 is designed to provide effective cleansing at a lower concentration to minimize concerns with potential irritation associated with the use of sulphates.
With The Ordinary's launch into shampoos and conditioners they seemed have wanted to keep things pretty simple, they also included SLS in their shampoo/body wash formula, which isn't the directions most brands have been going the last 15 years or so. Deciem, the company behind The Ordinary, claim that their 4% Sulphate shampoo is gentler and mild enough not to irritate the skin.
I found the formula runny and I would often pour out too much, but not enough if that makes sense. I found that was my regular amount of shampoo was about half of what I needed when applying theirs. I usually could get thought the top part of my scalp and would go back for seconds to do the bottom half of it.
I saw lots of reviews that said this formula did not lather, I found it created a mild lather that rinsed out quite easily.

Sadly, as body wash this one was not so great, it left me dry and itchy. My scalp always felt fine, but after a few weeks my hair started to look really damaged (I always used it with its matching conditioner). I really felt it did a ton of damage to my hair and I wish I stopped using it sooner.
Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner / 240 ml / $8.70
Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner is a minimalistic formula that avoids the bulky ingredients typically found in conditioners. This means more manageable hair with less weigh down.
My bottle of conditioner has an interesting texture, it is incredibly thick and I cannot get it out of the bottle without removing the cap (even then I have to store it upside-down). I've watched a few videos with people using it, and they don't seem to be having the same issues as I do.

I can chalk this up to two things. One this bottle is a terrible shape and plastic density that it makes squeezing thick products out hard. Two I may have gotten a bad batch. I say this because I was sent some Hylamide (a Deciem brand) eye serum a few years back that was a totally different shade and texture then it should have been. Every photo I have seen of this conditioner looks about half as thick as mine is. I went to one of the Deciem stores and got mixed stories from the employees. One said that is was not like that for her at all, while another said, yes, that is what she experienced for two bottles and hated it because of how it wouldn't come out.
Regardless of all of that the texture is thick and the colour is a semi-translucent cream.

This is a barebones conditioner formula, nothing special or fancy about it, but it does lack silicone, which makes it great for those with hair that gets weighted down easily. Other than that there is nothing super special about it. I found my hair felt soft and great, but also super frizzy if I didn't load it up afterwards with taming products and oils.

It also lacks real hydrators, there are no oils in it, so my dry and wavy hair just did not benefit from it at all. In fact the more weeks I used it the more trashed my hair looked.
An interesting side note, previous to this order of products all my The Ordinary products I had purchased were made in Canada. I noticed all three new products to me (the shampoo, conditioner and HA+ serum) were made in the USA. This kind of bummed me out. I know Estee Lauder owns Deciem now, and they have factories here in Canada outside of the Deciem one, but it kind of still sucked. I am guessing they used whatever factory they use for Bumble and Bumble and their other hair care lines for these products.
Overall,  I would only rebuy the density serum, that baby is ride or die for me, everything else is unremarkable or pure trash. The shampoo and conditioner both left my hair worse off and more damaged the more I used them. It isn't worth the time or money for them when I know I can get cheaper, better and made in Canada hair care with brands like Finesse at my grocery store (yes, I like Finesse, and it is superior in every way to the shampoo and conditioner...and made in Canada). The HA+ serum isn't that great, and nothing to rave about, so I would probably not rebuy it.

The seasons are changing and with that I have some new goodies from FareleyCo . Today I am going to take a first impressions look at them.

Invisibobble Sprunchie Multipack Black/Purrfection (2PC)

Hidden underneath luxurious velvet fabric, the invisibobble® ponytail holder contains a classic original, therefore providing the benefits that come with all the classic hair ring. Holding all strands of hair together thanks to its spiral shape, the SPRUNCHIE is easy to remove without compromising on comfort.

This is a double pack of two Invisibobble Sprunchies. What is a Sprunchie, well it is a classic Invisibobble inside a scrunchie. You get all the grip you would expect from an Invisibobble with the style and gentle care of a scrunchy. You get a black one and a cute animal print one.

I was really skeptical of this one but man can it hold my hair well. I is the perfect combo of the two products and I love it.

Invisibobble Extra Hold - The Secret Purple

The double helix spiral shape of the invisibobble® Extra Hold provides maximum, comfortable hold for thick hair. It gently but powerfully holds hair in place for an all day look without damaging the hair, or causing unnecessary tension.
    • traceless
    • all-day comfort
    • hair loving
    • strong grip for thick hair
    • non-soaking

If you love an Invisibobble you will love these. They are meant for thicker hair that needs a bit more hold. They are a doubled up version of their original hair elastics.

I love the strong hold they give, and while I cut my hair shortly after receiving them, I loved how they managed to hold even my shorter hair so darn well without any slipping. I wore them swimming a bunch of time and even then no slipping or hair popping out. Best yet they don't get water logged, making them the best for swimming.

Provoke's Touch of Silver line is meant for those with blonde, white or grey hair. It removes brassy tones and helps keep your hair at its most bright. I having dark hair have yet to try it, but my Mother in Law has white hair and loves all their products.

The Strengthening Purple line's Shampoo and Conditioners are meant to not only colour correct light hair shades, but also protecdt if from damage, making it feel softer and healthier after each use.

PROVOKE Illuminex Touch of Silver Strengthening Purple Shampoo

Brighten your colour and repair damaged hair bonds with PROVOKE ILLUMINEX Touch Of Silver Strengthening Purple Shampoo. Remove unwanted yellow and orange brassy tones whilst strengthening damaged hair bonds in just one wash.

PROVOKE Illuminex Touch of Silver Strengthening Purple Conditioner
PROVOKE Touch Of Silver Strengthening Purple Conditioner uses the most advanced ILLUMINEX formula, which is silicone & sulphate free and developed with AquaPlex™ to deeply hydrate. Enriched with vitamin B for hair that is bright, shiny & strong.
I love makes some fantastic body washes as well as body sprays. I really adore the scents I have previously tried, so I was excited to get to try some new body washes.

I Love Signature Scents Elderflower Fizz Body Wash

It is time to embrace the rejuvenating spirit of summer with this delightful presse, blending luscious fruits and watery cucumber, with delicate floral interludes. This vibrant fruity accord has opening notes of apple & cucumber, leading to a heart of lemony elderflowers and jasmine to create a beautiful floral freshness.

First up is Elderflower Fizz. Now I already have the body spray for this so I knew I was going to love it. It is fresh and light, floral and sweet. Elderflower as a food is something I really enjoy, it is sweet and floral and refreshing, which I find reflected in this body wash as well. There is a mild hit of cucumber and apple to it just making it seem more summery fresh.

I Love Signature Scents Violet Dreams Body Wash

Float away in a sweet, ethereal cloud of soft parma violets, lifted by a luminous medley of Sicilian bergamot and green apple, and leading to a romantic floral heart of white lily, jasmine and violet.

Next up is Violet Dreams body wash. I clearly am loving florals right now, so this one hits the mark as well. It has the essence of violets with complexity of bergamot and sweetness or green apple with another hit of floral with white lily. I just love it.

This Body Wash gently transforms into rich & creamy foam and contains natural fruit extracts. Skin loving moisturisers including Pro Vitamin B5 provides skin softening benefits to leave your body feeling cleansed, moisturised & silky smooth.

As how they perform as body washes? Really well. They lather and rinse well while leaving my body nice and soft. Nothing not to like here, just a very nice body wash.

BeautyLash Brow Tint Kint (Dark Brown)

BeautyLash Tinting Kit tints eyelashes and eyebrows draw attention to your eyes without appearing artificial. Eyelashes are longer and eyebrows are being enhanced and receive a clear and defined outline. Grey or white hair is covered up completely and shine in new, fresh colour. The new 2-step tinting system makes it possible to tint eyelashes and eyebrows on your own in only 2 steps – the application is simple and safe. The colour lasts up to 6 weeks and is smudge and water resistant.

I tried BeautyLash years ago and really liked it. I was always afraid of tinting my own lashes until I found them.

It is a simple two part vegan system that you can use over an over again until you use it up. You can also do your lashes with them. The results are quite good, and since grey hairs are creeping up in my brows they save me a lot of time because I don't worry about my brows every morning.

Make sure to thouroughly cleanse eylashes and brows from oil, dead skin, mascara and lotion prior to use. One package is sufficient for 8 tinting applications.

Perspirex Comfort Antiperspirant (25ml)

Perspirex Comfort Extra Effective Antiperspirant is clinically proven to provide extra effective protection against sweat for 2-3 days.
The Comfort skin care system contains ingredients that hydrate the skin for extra skin comfort. Apply at night to completely dry, unbroken skin. No need to reapply in the morning. Fragrance-free. Not tested on animals.

I have talked about Perspirex quite a bit before, and I still love it. In fact it made my favourites of 2020 list.. I love that it lasts for days even with showering or swimming. I recently went away for 3 days and brought no antiperspirant with me because I applied it before going. It saved me room and I had no worry about getting sweaty even in the middle of the summer.

So... Summer Escapes Bali Breeze Body Mist

So…? Bali Breeze body mist transports your thoughts to lazy and carefree days on the beach. Its mellow notes of coconut, pineapple and pretty orange blossom create a fragrance that is soothing and calming to your senses.
I love a good tropical fragrance, it makes me feel like warm days are still with us. So...Summer Escapes Bali Breeze smells just like a tropical scent should, coconut, pineapple and orange blossoms. It spritzes well and lasts a moderate amount of time for a Body Mist. I really love applying it to my body before getting dressed as well as my clothing.

Overall I am really impressed with everything I have tried out so far. I am loving the Invisibobbles and how they manage to hold up my hair so darn well. I of course love my faourite Perspirex, and am very excited to try some new fragrance and body washes out. If you want to check out these new products they should be popping up at drug stores near you soon or at ShopHali.com.

Inecto is a completely new brand to me, I have yet to try anything of theirs or even really hear about them before, that being said I have been really impressed with both the quality and performance of their products.

Icecto is a natural hair and body care brand that uses nut oils as its key ingredients. There is almond, shea, argan and coconut oils in their lines. Today I am going to talk about their Moisturizing Coconut shampoo and conditioner.

Inecto Naturals Mmm Moisture Coconut Shampoo

With thirst quenching pure Organic Coconut Oil, this lustre replenishing formula will deeply nourish and leave hair feeling heavenly.
Infused with 100% Pure Coconut Oil, this daily shampoo cleanses and moisturises for amazing soft and frizz-free hair.
A luscious range of Hair Care products, the Inecto Naturals Coconut range will leave your hair feeling velvety smooth and super-sleek looking, while heavenly scented with the tropical aroma of coconut.Tailor-made for those with dry and frizz-prone hair.
I started using this shampoo right after I began swimming season, so my hair really could use extra care. The shampoo is mildly creamy and on the slightly thin side. It forms a pleasant lather that when rinsed leaves my hair feeling pretty darn clean. It also leaves my scalp feeling nice, my scalp is prone to feeling dry, and this stuff leaves it feeling nice afterwards.

Inecto Naturals Marvelous Moisture Coconut Conditioner

Inecto Naturals Coconut range will leave your hair feeling velvety smooth and super-sleek looking, while heavenly scented with the tropical aroma of coconut. Tailor-made for those with dry and frizz-prone hair.
This creamy conditioner absorbs quickly to hydrate and detangle your hair. Try it once, and be forever in love with your new super-silky shine. Seduce your tresses with this super-creamy conditioner for a splendidly silky reward. Infused with Pure Organic Coconut Oil, your hair will be relieved of dryness and smell beyond amazing. Massage in to damp hair for 1-2 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
Feel good hair and skin care products enhanced by the goodness of natural ingredients, Inecto Naturals Ingredients have no animal testing, are vegan friendly and use organic & sustainably sourced oil.
The conditioner is that of a typical conditioner consistency. It rinses extremely easily and leaves my hair smooth and detangled. It doesn't weigh my waves/curls down and lets them be bouncy.

Both products smell mildly of coconut, not over the top, but just enough that you will say 'hey, that's coconut'.  The formula is extremely hydrating, which considering how thin they are is a bit surprising. My hair always feels light with lots of body and hydrated after using them. All that and my frizz has been reduced.
These Inecto products are both 95% naturally derived, vegan, free from animal testing, and contain organic & sustainably sourced oil.

Overall I really like this combo of shampoo and conditioner, my hair and scalp are responding well to them. My hair feels healthy, soft and fluffy and frankly that is all I can hope for right now as I swim 4-7 days a week. I would love to give a few of their other products because I have been so impressed with these two products.

Trying to go low waste? Plastic Free? Vegan? Travel Friendly? Maybe you're just looking for something that takes up less space in your shower. Well if any of those are the case you Foamie Shampoo and Conditioner bars might be a great option for you. They come in a paper box (making it a plastic) and with a rope so you can hang them in the shower for less soapy mess in between. They have a curve to them, which makes them easy to grip and match the shape of your scalp, making for easy use.

I recently tried the Hibiskiss versions out, which is meant for damaged, hair and has hibiscus and nettle in it. They have a mild hibiscus scent to them.

Foamie Hibiskiss Solid Shampoo Bar for Damaged Hair (8g)

I love the shampoo bar, it has been fantastic the last few months, especially since I started swimming. I generally wet my hair thoroughly and then rub it down my scalp and then to the ends of my hair while holding it with my other hand. I make sure not to rub in just one downward direction and not back and forth as to not mat up my hair. I then massage it around until I feel an adequate amount of lather has formed and then I rinse it off.

I feel it does a great job of cleaning my hair while not stripping it. I really like using it and how my hair feels.

Ingredients: ISODIUM LAURYL SULFOSUCCINATE, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, SODIUM COCOYL ISETHIONATE, TRITICUM VULGARE (WHEAT), HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE GLYCERIDES, SODIUM COCO-SULFATE, AQUA (WATER), PALMITIC ACID, STEARIC ACID, CITRIC ACID, GLYCERIN, COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), GUAR HYDROXYPROPYLTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE, OCTYLDODECANOL, SODIUM CHLORIDE, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, DIAMMONIUM CITRATE, HIBISCUS SABDARIFFA FLOWER EXTRACT, URTICA DIOICA (NETTLE) LEAF EXTRACT, SODIUM BENZOATE, POTASSIUM SORBATE, HEXYL CINNAMAL, LINALOOL, ALPHA-ISOMETHYL IONONE, CITRONELLOL, LIMONENE, CI 77491 (IRON OXIDES), CI 77891 (TITANIUM DIOXIDE)

Foamie Hibiskiss Solid Conditioner Bar for Damaged Hair (8g)
I was super happy to try the conditioner out, because I have never tried one before. Sadly, I was pretty disappointed. I don't know if my technique is off or if it just isn't right for me. I usually rub in one directions and then focus on my ends, but I don't find does a thing. That being said I haven't stopped using it, I just use a regular conditioner after.

Ingredients: TRITICUM VULGARE (WHEAT) STARCH, HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE GLYCERIDES, DISODIUM LAURYL SULFOSUCCINATE, SODIUM COCOYL ISETHIONATE, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, CITRIC ACID, COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE, THEOBROMA CACAO (COCOA) SEED BUTTER, THEOBROMA GRANDIFLORUM (THEOBROMA) SEED BUTTER, AQUA (WATER), COCOS NUCIFERA (COCONUT) OIL, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), SODIUM CHLORIDE, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL, TOCOPHEROL, HIBISCUS SABDARIFFA FLOWER EXTRACT, SODIUM BENZOATE, POTASSIUM SORBATE, HEXYL CINNAMAL, LINALOOL, ALPHA-ISOMETHYL IONONE, CITRONELLOL, LIMONENE, CI 77491 (IRON OXIDES), CI 77891 (TITANIUM DIOXIDE)

Overall I really like the Foamie brand, I love their body wash (which I talk about here) and I love the shampoo bar, the conditioner is a bit more disappointing to me. I do enjoy that they are plastic free, extremely low waste, vegan and take up almost no space hanging in my shower. Also a big bonus is they aren't liquid so they are travel friendly and the small bars replace a whole bottle. I do think my hair is just too damaged and my water too hard to make the conditioner work, but it may work well for others.

Have you tried shampoo and conditioner bars before? What do you think of them?

In a typical summer, I spend most of my time swimming and damaging up my hair big time, this year my condo board chose not to open the pool at all. While one would think this meant my hair would have been saved some damage, I regretfully inform you that it has not. For some reason, probably a combo of sun and heat and using the wrong hair products for a few months, has lead to my hair being absolutely fried. Add to that my current traumatic hair loss, which has resulted in about 50% of my hair falling out in the last six months, my hair hasn't been feeling its best.
I was super happy when I was asked if I wanted to try out Finesse's newly improved Hydration + Softness Shampoo and Conditioner. I haven't tried Finesse since I was a teen, so naturally, it brings back some nostalgia, but I was also very interested in seeing how the brand performs now and what improvements have been made.

This improved formula is now thicker and contains Camellia Oil to help hold moisture in the hair even during the hottest days. It does all this without weighing your hair down and providing a barrier against UV and Chlorine damage.

The shampoo has a slight creaminess to it, which just shows how moisturizing it is. It lathers incredibly easily into a nice rich foam and rinses easily.
The conditioner is a nice rich consistency that spreads easily onto my hair. It coats it while also feeling like it is being absorbed a bit. It also rinses easily and leaves no heaviness to the hair.
The end result of these two products is my hair feels amazing and surprisingly high end. The more I use it the better my hair feels. My hair never feels weighed down, it is far less frizzy and I cannot stop touching it. More hydrated hair, check. Softer hair, check. These products do exactly what they say they do. As you may be able to see below, my naturally dried hair is not frizzy after using it, but smooth and sleek.
Finesse products can be found at drug stores, grocery stores and mass retailers nationwide for under $4. That is less than $4!!! You really can't go wrong with this combo for a price like that.

Last September I stopped by The Body Shop to use up my birthday gift money (FYI in Canada you can join The Body Shop's free Love Your Body club and rack up points towards free products and get $10 to spend in your birthday month). While I was there I picked up their Banana Truly Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner.  Since then I have told just about everyone about them. The Body Shop has even added some limited edition body products in the Banana scent for the summer.

I cannot count the number of times someone has said "I used to use that in the '90s!" when I mention the shampoo and conditioner. The second thing I hear is "Does it smell like antibiotics?" and yeah it kind of smells like banana penicillin that you probably took as a kid, and that is because it is made with real bananas.

Banana Truly Nourishing Shampoo & Conditioner
Since being reintroduced, the shampoo and conditioner are now made with Comunity Trade organic bananas from Ecuador, vegetarian, and silicone free.

The shampoo is pretty creamy if I don't pay attention I often grab the wrong bottle mistaking it for the conditioner. I need a modest amount to get my hair clean. It lathers extremely nicely while still being nourishing and not stripping my hair or scalp.  I also find it rinses very easily.

The conditioner is of average consistency, not too thick or to thing. I need about the same amount as I do the shampoo to get full coverage. I find it feels super smooth and semi-absorbs into my hair. When I am swimming a lot my ends get dried, when that happens the conditioner is not enough for them, I need a mask on the ends. Other than that it really is nice and hydrating. It too rinses well.

Both products leave my hair light and bouncy, my waves are more formed and my hair is just more manageable. I love that there is no silicone and no buildup occurs as a result.
Limited Edition Banana Shower Cream
This body wash looks just like banana pudding, it is kind of freaky. It is creamy and hydrating while creating a decent lather. I don't find it lathers as well as one of their clear body washes, but then again it is sold as a shower cream and not a gel. It rinses really well and actually leaves me feeling nice and hydrated, all while smelling like yummy bananas.

The shower cream is also vegan so that is nice.

Limited Edition Banana Body Polish
When I saw that there was a body polish in the limited edition line and that it came in a tube I got super excited. I love The Body Shop scrubs in a tube, Satsuma is my all-time favourite. They act as a body wash and a scrub and come in a way better package then the tubs. Unfortunately, this was a big let down for me. There is barely any scrubbers in it at all. It really is just the shower cream with a tad bit of exfoliants in it. So it was let down.

Overall, I am loving the shampoo and conditioner, and I will be getting more as soon as I run out. The body cream is a good choice if you want to get something from their summer limited edition line, I would not recommend the polish.

There is also a Body Yogurt and Body Butter in the limited edition body line and a Hair Mask in the Truly Nourishing hairline. I would have picked up Body Yogurt if I didn't have so many body lotions and butter hanging around my home half used.
