Beauty Vixen

Last Christmas I was lucky enough to receive a gift card for the Toronto Bite Lip Lab from a co-worker. Located at Queen St. just west of Bathurst, it is the home of Bite Cosmetics that lets you create your own custom Bite lipsticks.

I had a wonderful artist helping me named Natalya. She started by asking me if I wanted to do their Bespoke or A La Carte lip services. I discussed that my gift card was for two A La Carte lipsticks, but I wasn't sure if I should splurge on the upgrade. We decided that since I was looking for two specific colours I should get the Bespoke, so I did.
I brought along two lipsticks that I wear a lot, cost a lot and would enjoy something like them that I could use daily and feel a tad less guilty about. They were Tom Ford Boys & Girls lipsticks in the shades, Bradley and Richard, a muted warm peach-brown and rich pinky mauve respectively. Now, these Tom Fords are tiny little lipsticks that cost $44 + tax each, so I figured I would probably end up flying through them if I didn't find something similar that I liked just as much soon.

Before we began mixing, I was given some of Bite's lip scrub to scrub my lips and some of their lip mask to hydrate.

We first started with trying to get something that resembled Bradley, essentially a pinky or peach nude that would look good on my skin tone. The first thing that then happened was a cellophane sheet came out with grids on it. The artist then applies a shade from many concentrates that they have to a select number of cubes on the sheet. The colour and its amount get written down and this happens a few more times until the artist feels they have the correct mixture for your shade. They then mix them together in the middle and a small amount of your desired base (I chose satin) gets mixed in and you have a chance to try it on.
a snap of my final mixes. The shades I chose have hearts next to them. Sorry about the quality, using my cell phone camera.
I did not like the first attempt at all, which was fine, the artist and I discussed what it was I thought it needed and mixed some more shades and tried again. Surprisingly, the second shade was spot on. I just adored and decided to go with that. The process went really quickly because I wasn't trying to exactly match my existing lipstick and because I had a good idea of what I wanted it to look like. We then started with the second lipstick. I decided I wanted something more oranged nude, kind of a spicy shade. This one took three tries!
While the artist writes up my custom recipe for my lipsticks I was asked to smell some flavours and decided on which ones I would like to use for my lipsticks. I chose mint and citrus for mine.
My mixtures got made into little jars, melted and then spun in a centrifuge. Then once mixed they were poured into a mould and put on an anti-griddle (like at cold stone creamery). We then waited and I chose the names for the lipsticks. I went with B-Rad for the Bradley type lipstick (my dog Bradley's nickname is B-Rad) and Vixen for the spicer fall shade.
My lipsticks got engraved and come in the same magnetic packaging with a flat cap as Bites Multiple Sticks.
Overall I really loved the process. I got two custom lipsticks I think really suit my skin tone and because they are shades I really like I know I will use them a lot. I always find I get nudes that are too brown or too pink or heck too pale, so getting a pinky one made that suites me is one of the best things I could hope for. As for Vixen, I love that it is spicy and just a tad bit orange with makes it great for the fall.
I also got a cute little mini lip kit which has a mini scrub, lip mask and primer because I got two Bespoke lipsticks made. The lipsticks and the kit were wrapped up incredibly nice in their own boxes, bite lipstick tissue paper and a gift bag.
In the end, these cost $150 for both and the kit, making them $75 + tax each. It wasn't a cheap time, but I did get to spend close to an hour making something just for me and got two great lipsticks out of it. I would definitely do this again, in fact I plan on taking my aunt when she gets low on her favourite discontinued lipstick shade.
My finished lipsticks.
My entire purchase ( I also got a lipstick from the store).
Have you ever visited a Bite Lip Lab? What shade of lipstick would you make if you went to one?

I picked up a few items the last month and thought it would be a good time to share them with you.

Indeed Labs:
TopBox Circle sent me some Indeed products to try out. So far I am in love with the mineral booster. IN LOVE. It is great for this time of year when I want light layers.
Canadian Themed Lipsticks:
I picked up three Canadian themed lipsticks recently.
Bite #BiteToronto lipstick. Bite (a Toronto based brand) came up with a road trip themed collection and I had to pick up #biteToronto. It is described as a spiced maple shade.
Mac Proud To Be Canadian is another one I grabbed (also a Toronto founded brand). This is a rich red shade that is so darn pretty.
Finally, I grabbed a Sephora Collection #lipstories lipstick from their Destinations collection. The collection features a bunch of US cites and then Canada. So I picked up Sephora Loves Canada. These paper tube lipsticks feature fun pictures. For Canada, we got a close up of a mug that says Canada and a maple leaf, all of which is odd, but whatever. It is a matte and has #matte embossed in it. This of the three is the only one not made in Canada, it is made in Italy.
Wet N Wild Eyeshadow Trio: I got this from a recent collection from them. It wasn't much, but I liked the Rose Quartz shades.
No7 Lift & Luminate Dark Spot Concentrate: So my Shoppers Drug Mart had a lot on sale the last few months and I got a lot. I have been looking for a dark spot roller for years and this was just $3 so I got 2.
No7 Instant Illusion Wrinkle Filler: This was also on sale for $3 so I got it. It seems to be a silicone filler for wrinkles.

Essence Never Give Up Your Daydream Palette:
I wanted to try this palette for months, I finally found one at my Superstore that wasn't trashed so I grabbed it. So far it really has been fantastic, soft and silky, really pretty shades.
The Inkey List Q10: I have wanted to try this out since I attended the Canadian launch of the brand. I really love how well things work and the affordability.
No7 Beautiful Skin Night Cream: My Shoppers Drug Mart had this on clearance for $5 so I grabbed it. I am always looking for a good night cream and the price was right.
Physician's Formula Charcoal Detox: This was on sale at my Shoppers Drug Mart for $3, so I grabbed it. It will be my first time trying out a stick face mask.
Physicians Formula Butter Blush in Beachy Peach: I got this at my local Shoppers Drug Mart it was on sale for $5, so I really couldn't say no.
Ok, so that is it. I got quite a few things, but didn't go too crazy at least.

It is that time of year again, the Sephora VIB Rouge sale happened and I went and bought a lot of stuff while I could get a discount on it.

I honestly only got the last of my orders the other day due to the ongoing Canada Post strike so I know it is a little late, but anyways here it is.

Sephora Collection: Enchanted Sky Palette ($13)
The last few years I have been extremely impressed with Sephora Collection's limited edition holiday products. I have used the palettes non-stop and have just loved their pigmentation, blendablity and colours. Of course, I was excited about this year's products as a result. Sadly there weren't as many smaller palettes, but I did manage to pick this guy up. It runs for $13 regular price and is extremely pigmented and buttery. I love that it is little and kind of a no-frills palette while still looking festive.
Sephora Collection: The Glowy Surprise ($17)
How cute is this? It is a holiday cracker style gift set. The gold sleeve slides off if you want to give it as a gift or put it on a table. A side note, I just saw a sneak peek at the Black Friday deals and saw there were two new Suprise crackers, so those should be exciting.

It contains a highlight stick, blush stick and long-lasting lipstick. The shades for the face seem to be holiday limited editions but the lipstick is a permanent item.
Sephora Favourites: Sunkissed Glow($48 /on sale for $24)
I have not picked up Favourites Set (that isn't a lip one) in so long, but they always deliver on value and variety.  This one features bronzer from some top selling brands and even has full-sized Ciate product. I have Benefit Hoola and Tarte Park Avenue Princess, which means I will be tossing them into some co-workers Xmas gifts.
Bite: Agave Treat Trio Mini Agave Lip Mask Set ($20)
I love Bite oh so much. Every year I pick up at least one set. This year I am treating my lips to their lip mask set. I am most excited for the Candy Cane one but I have also loved the Maple in the past.
TOO FACED: Gingerbread Spice Eye Shadow Palette ($59), The Sweet Smell of Christmas-Mini Melted Liquid Lipstick Set ($32), and Melted Gingerbread Girl Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick  ($25)
Soooo, yeah I went gingerbread crazy. I really wanted the Gingerbread palette, so I got it. It is so pretty and it smells so yummy. I also picked up Gingerbread Girl Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick to go with the Gingerbread Boy I already had as well as the set of 4 minis. I can say everything here is amazing and I am so glad I managed to get them all.
FENTY BEAUTY BY RIHANNA: Bomb Baby Mini Lip and Face Set ($28)
I really haven't tried much from Fenty yet, but everyone says I need Bomb Baby and this set seemed like a good value to try it out. I am pretty excited.
Makeup Forever: Empty Palettes ($2)
I have a few MUFE items that need a palette and these magnetic babies work well with many other shadows too, so I thought it would be a good time to get some more of them.

So there you go, all the goodies I picked up this year during the sale. I am pretty happy with myself.

What did you get during the Holiday VIB, VIB Rouge and BI sale?

It was that time of year again, the time where Sephora has their big sale for BI, VIB and VIB Rouge. Being a VIB Rouge I got an extra weekend of savings and received 20% off my purchases. I really didn't go to crazy this time, frankly there wasn't much I actually wanted from the holiday collections.

Becca - Glow on the go Highlighter Set in Champagne Pop $24
I picked this mini set up the last two years in Moonstone and Opal. It has a mini Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed and Wand in Champagne Pop. Considering the sell the pressed mini for $23 on its own in stores I definitely think it is a bargain.

Bite - Mauvember MultiStick and Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick $28

For the third year in a row Bite is doing their Mauvember thing. In the past there were lipsticks, this year it is a MultiSTick and Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick. Since I still have my Mauvember lipstick and I have yet to try any of their MultiSticks I thought I would grab one. Also I am a big fan of their Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick so I had to get it.  Bite donates all proffits from the products to The Movember Foundation. Great cause, pretty shades, quality products, there really is no down side to buying these products.

Sephora Collection - Alseep For The Winter Sleep Mask $18
This one is a silly one. I pretty much got it because it is a fox. I actually really love Sephora Collection's Sleep Masks. I got a cat one two years ago and it is by far the best sleep mask I have ever had...so of course I had to get this silver fox.

Shu Uemura Super Mario Bros. x Shu Uemura Tint In Balm- Underground Adventure $35
Shu Uemura has this amazing Super Mario collection out right now. With fancy detailed boxes and products that I may have gone a little nuts buying stuff. This little lip tint is actually really pretty. I am glad that with a collection like this all the products are the same price as their regular versions.

Shu Uemura Super Mario Bros. x Shu Uemura Unlimited Supreme Matte Lipstick - 375 & 187 $36

With bricks, Mario and Peach I had to have these. Shu is a little pricy so 20% off made it worth while.

Shu Uemura Super Mario Bros. x Shu Uemura Invincible Superstar Premium Gold Curler $25

This one really got me excited. It is a gold version of the cult classic Shu lash curler, with a star attached.

So that is all I got this year. Was there anything you picked up during the sale?

Every once and a while, Sephora releases a Sephora Favourites 'Give Me Some Lip" set. Last year there was great nude lip set, this year they are doing it again.

Filled with full size and minis of various nude shades, this set is a great way to try out a bunch of new lip products at a great price.

It costs $33.00 Cad and has a value of $103.00, it has 2 full sized and 4 minis in it.
The set contains:
- 1.55 g (mini) Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Honeycomb (beige nude)
- 1.55 g (mini) Buxom Full-On Lip Cream in White Russian (nude)
- 0.25 g (full sized) Estée Edit The Barest Contour lip Liner in 05 In The Buff (satin nude)
- 1.7 g (mini)  Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Lip Crème in 246 Slow Burn (creamy nude rose)
- 2.3 mL(Mini) Too Faced Cosmetics Melted Matte Liquified Matte Long Wear Lipstick in Queen B (matte soft mauve)
- 3.4 g (full sized) Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in 1993 Comfort Matte (medium brown)
Urban Decay's 1993 and Estee Edit liner in The Buff work perfectly together making it great that you get a full size of each (less chance of running out of one). They are both mid range brown shades.

Bite has won me over in the last few years with their lipsticks, I already had Honeycomb as a mini from their xmas Perfect Bite Set so this one is going away until I finish the other. I can say it has quickly become my go to nude.

Buxom provides this years lip gloss option with White Russian. I also have this from a past set too. I seem to have never reached for this one, so I am going to give it more of a go now. It is a more opaque lip gloss that has a pinky nudeness to it. I find it can really create lines on your lips when it settles.

Marc Jacobs' Slow Burn is a rosy nude. I have two other mini MJ lipsticks but never wear them, maybe this one I will get more wear out of.

Too Faced's Queen B provides the long-wearing matte gloss in this set. I actually really am liking the Melted Matte line, so I am glad to try out another one. This nude runs more mauve then the rest.
Overall I am liking this set. I get to try out some new products for a great price (UD lipsticks run $21). I think it is worth checking out if you are in the market for some new nude shades in your life.

What do you think of the set?

recently picked up the Bite Beauty's The Perfect Bite Set from my local Sephora. I've been trying to resit buying the newly reformulated Amuse Bouche lipsticks, but this mini set was too much for me to resist.
Fig is a nude rose shade, Pepper a dusty Rose, Honeycomb a beige nude and Nori a brown red shade.
While I haven't used them a ton yet, I am loving them, their slightly citrus flavour and creamy texture.
I love the little tin with its big mirror. I plan on popping the insert out and using it as a makeshift eyeshadow palette.
While I can't find this on the Sephora site right now, it is still in stores.
