Beauty Vixen: holiday set

It is time to look at a few of the holiday option that Quo has going on this season. Every year they launch a variety of items, this year is no different, and I happen to have three to look at today.

Luxury Lipstick Wardrobe ($30.00)

This lipstick set features four stunning lipsticks in beautiful gold tubes. They happen to have a nice weight to them, which adds to their glam and makes them feel very luxurious if you ask me.

They all are matte, have a nice creamy texture to them and are quite opaque. Despite having mango butter in them, my lips feel dry the next day. I do find they have a great wear time as well as general feel to the formula.

One of the nice things about a set like this is that you can keep them all for yourself (what I am doing), give them as a gift for one person or break them up into little stocking suffers for a few people, which makes it versatile as a gift.

Hidden Treasures Cosmetic Crackers ($18.00)

Crackers are a tradition in many homes during the holidays, it is mine. These cosmetics ones made by Quo add a little bit more glam to the night. I personally love crackers but hate it when I get a lame gift, so often the get left at the table and tossed at the end of the night. Frankly usually we get a kick out of the lame jokes and me refusing to wear the paper hat (its not happening people). These crackers skip the lame toy, hate and joke and stick with a lipgloss and eyeshadow duo instead.

Non of the products have colour names, so I just grouped them as they are in the crackers. There is a matte cream and matte brown shadow paired with a rosy gloss. The next set has a shadow duo with a light champagne with brown shade with a with a mauve gloss. Finally a shadow duo with grey and taupe shade with a milky light pink gloss.

All the glosses are shimmer free and have a nice amount of pigment to them. The shadows are not the most pigmented, but that actually makes them good to give out since you don't know what everyone's taste can be like.

Soft Focus Highlighting Palette ($30.00)

Finally I am going to look at this brush and highlighter set. It features a palette with three highlighters in it with varying textures.

The brushes are amazing! I mean it. I have used the rounded one to blend blend blend away lines ever since I got it. I put on contour that is a bit harsh, buff buff and its gone. The other brush is just as nice, It has quickly become my go to bush and highlight brush. Both are incredibly soft and have won me right over, they are just fantastic.

The palette has a pretty leafy pattern on the outside and has a nice weight to it, nothing to heavy while not feeling flimsy. The highlighters are very nice, some more shimmery then others, but all apply really nice to the skin.

The shade on the left is a neutral beige, centre is a Pearl highlight that has a slight pink tone to it and the right is a golden powder. At first I thought that I wouldn't like the ones on the left and right since they looked too shimmery (the right one especially), but it turns out they look great on the skin and the shimmer doesn't come off too glittery when applied. The only real down side is that there isn't too much of difference between the shades. My favourite one is the middle one, there is just something about it that makes my skin look fantastic.

There are plenty of other fun new items in the Quo Holiday 2016 collection, 27 items in the collection total. I personally am eyeing a brush set or two brush set and the contour set.

Since I have been all about lips and holiday lip sets these last few post, I thought I would do just one more on a more nourishing and caring holiday set for your lips, you know, because the weather is getting awful out there.

If your anything like me, your lips get really dry, really fast in the fall and winter months. Wearing deeper coloured lipsticks and stains certainly hasn't helped them either, in fact my lips are down right soar this time of year. That is part of the reason a set like this is so great. Not only can take care and repair your messed up winter lips, but you can also add a pop of colour so you don't feel like your just wearing lip balm.

This set contains:
- 2.2g Sugar Rosé Shine Lip Treatment (a full sized is 4.3g and costs $26cad)
- 3ml Sugar Rosé Tinted Lip Treatment (a full sized is 6ml and costs $22cad)
It costs $23 and has a value of $27

The Fresh Sugar Rose Ritual Set comes with a Rose Shine Lip Treatment and a Sugar Rose Tinted lip Treatment in miniature sizes. Pretty much a tinted lip balm and a nourishing lipgloss treatment, both in a nice rosy shade. They both come in at half the size of their full sized versions, but for the cost of just one. So it is a good value for you money.

Since I have fallen hard for Fresh products this last year, to find out I also love the Fresh Sugar lip care is no shock to me at all. Part of what makes this set great is how fantastic Fresh Sugar lip products are, they almost have a cult following. Ans why wouldn't they? With ingredients like Avocado Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Mango seed oil there are some great lip products that contain no parabens, sulfates or phthalates.

If you are a fan of Fresh and their fantastic lip line, this is a great mini set for you. It also is great if you wanted to try a few items from the line and not commit to buying just one big Sugar Lip Treatment or Sugar Shine Lip Treatment and for a bit of a discount.

It seems ever year I fall victim to purchasing at waste one holiday set from Tarte. Which I cannot say is a bad thing since I've honestly loved each one of the sets that I've gotten over those years. This year I picked up the Deluxe Amazonian Butter Lipstick Set which is a mini lip set that is frankly really nice.

You get 4 of Tarte's Amazonian lip butters in a mini format for only $25 Canadian. A full sized is 0.1 oz and cost $20 while this set has 4 minis that are 0.035 oz, making it decent value, but certainly not anything spectacular. It does get you 4 lipsticks to try, so that's a good thing. They also all have adorable drink names, which is kind of cute.

First of these are sheer and supposedly hydrating, hence the lip butters and not lipstick claim. I don't find them super hydrating, or even as hydrating as many other lip butters, but I think they pack a pretty good hydration for you lips punch, certainly better than most glosses or lipsticks they are on the sheer side.

The packaging is made of paper, which is honestly kind of neat. They are also pretty tiny in the inside, so you might need to be careful you don't break them when using them .Yep they are a mini for sure.

As you can see by the swatches on my arm, 3 of the colours are very similar, which sangria popping out with a deeper and more red colour. On my lips most of those difference go away, punk, mimosa and bellini are almost identical on my lips. Sangria still stands out which is definitely nice.

Overall I like this set, it is giving me a good change to try out some of Tarte's butter lipsticks without shelling out all the cash. I do think for the size and price difference you might be better off just getting one that you really like since there isn't too much colour nations in this kit. That being said, I like mini's and just trying out new brands, and a set like this works well for me.

This baby has 4 Nars blushes and a big Laguna Bronzer.

Clinique Chubby Stick in Super Strawberry:

This mini was a 100 point perk I redeemed. So far I am really liking it.

Still Merry and Bright Makeup Set:

This set has a limited edition Convertible Colour in Tulip, lip glaze in Glalmour and a liner in Purple Tang. It also comes with a jewelled headband.

BareMinerals Bare Skin Perfecting Face Brush:

This baby has an indent in the centre (almost like a donut) where you place your foundation and then buff it into the skin. I am really loving the effect if gives my skin.

Marc Jacobs Fragrance Daisy Mini Duo:

These were only $18 so with the 20% off I said why not. I also got a set for a xmas gift for a friend.

Tarte Pigment of Imagination Deluxe Cheek Set:

This set was $12 what a steal. I just had to have it. I really like their blushes lately.

Clarisonic Sensitive Skin Double Replacement Pack:

I just got a Clarisonic from Chickadivsor so I thought it was a good time to get replacement heads as I will need them eventually.

Urban Decay De-Slick Double Shot:

It has two minis if the de-slick setting spray. I figured I needed some more setting spray and it was a good price.

Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Lip:

This has some pretty lip sticks and glosses. Some are pretty tiny though (0.02 oz of Marc Jacobs or 0.05 oz of bite...eek). But it was only $30 before the sale so it is a good way of trying out some new lip products.

Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Mrs. Mia Wallace Palette:

I have this, I reviewed this, I loved this...it was $18 plus 20% off ...so I got a back up. Don't judge me.

Benefit 3 Scoops O' Sexy:

This set has 3 full sized lip balms and 3 mini cheek and lip tints. I love Benefit so I had to have it. Each lip balm retails for $22 and the whole set is regularly $50 so even before the sale discount it was a good deal. Shoppers Drug Mart has a similar one with just two of the sets, its called Sweet Temptations and has Lolli tint and Benetint in it for $30 (slightly better value).

Clinique Take the Day off Cleansing Balm:

I love cleansing balms and use The Body Shops a lot. So I got this one, only to return it.

Buxom Too Hot To Handle:

This was a 500 point perk I redeemed. It has a bronzer, lip gloss, lipstick, eye liner and mascara all in mini sizes. I am loving the purple lip shades.

Ok so that is it. I spent way to much, then went nuts again on Black Friday with the $12 deals.

On my recent trip across the boarder I picked up this pretty set at Ulta. I wasn't sure if I needed it before I got there, but once I saw it and the $39 price tag I was sold.

The set comes with 12 eye shadows, a glittery bag and a mini Better Than Sex Mascara.

Now that I've had some time to try it out I figured I should give it a good review.

First off I love the mascara (does it live up to its name....um no, that would just be nonsense). I love the hourglass shape. It reminds me of an Avon mineral mascara I loved but is no longer made.

Now on to the palette.

The bag is cute but annoying as all hell. I just can't get the palette in and out of it with ease. I am just going to use it for other things. If I ever do choose to travel with the set I won't be using it to hold the palette.

The shadows themselves are almost all amazing. The black Black Liquorice shade is a bit chalk and blends poorly. I also feel Meringue is a little chalky, but not quite as bad. Plus Meringue would mainly be used as below the brow shade, so it isn't like blending is that big of a deal for it.

Sugared violet is the only glittery shade, which adds a bit of variety without there bing tons of glitter added to the palette.

Below is a break down of the colours:

Nutmeg, Champagne Truffle and Pink Frosting are my favourite shades for sure.
Coconut Cream - A matte light almost white colour
Nutmeg - a light golden brown with a frosted finish
Biscotti - brown / bronze with a slightly metallic finish
Sugared Violet - an almost black purple with a satin finish and sparkles lightly thoughout
Champagne Truffle - a golden beige with a frosted finish
Pink Frosting - light pink with a light metallic finish
Cinnamon sugar - golden bronze that is metallic finish
Chocolate Cake - a matte dark brown
Meringue - a matte light creamy-pink
Clove - a matte taupe with a bit of purple
Bon Bon -a lilac that is frosted
Black Liquorice - a matte black

Pros:

Good price ($39.00 USA)
Great selection of neutral/nude shades
Not too many glittery colours but a good selection of metallics and mattes
Great for travel
Good quality overall

Cons:

Only available in the USA in Ulta
The black shade kind of sucks
Some of the shades look alike

Overall:

I really am glad I grabbed this. If you get the chance I highly recommend it. It seems perfect for the holidays and is great value. I really appreciate that there is a few matte shades thrown in and while the black sucks it really is just a black, I wouldn't use it too much anyways.
