Beauty Vixen

April's Glossybox theme was...."WORK THAT BEAUTY" and some how that means a work suitable box ? I guess. I just don' t know, I feel they just give these boxes names and they don't mean anything (ex. global beauty  and being filled with burt's bees and nivea).

So in addition to this being "Work that Beauty" themed, Silhouette Greek yogurt curated it and Olympic athlete Tracy Little is the boxes "face" (although we do not see her face).
the info card
Anyhow, here is what was in the box:
the product card (note glossybox let us know there was an error in the size of the Boscia, it is 15 ml)
the box
First up is some coupons. We got a Silhouette Greek yogurt coupon for a free 4 pack or a tub.
We then got two sets of coupons for Schick Hydro Silk razor refills and disposables ($12 in total).
We also got a Pop Beauty Eyeliner. Mine is a Cat Eyes Liner in Blazing Blue (a cobalt shade) it is full sized and valued at $16.00.
Hartland Fragrances Epsom Salts. These are scented salts that a full 30 oz bag retails for $10.10. I have no clue how big this bag is so I cannot determine its value. What it does say is this is a single use size, so I will be getting one really nice bath.
Next up is Jelly Pong Pong Lip Blush. This is a full size lip product valued at $18.70. This is a bright red and mine is broken (the product is bouncing around in the tube).
Boscia Recharging Night Lotion is also a full sized? product at  15ml (there was an error on the card glossy's site says this 15 ml is worth $13) with a $44.00 value.
Lastly we got a Schick Hydro Silk Razor valued at $10.99.
So there it is the box. Loads of value for the box this month, over $58 plus the coupons. Personally I cannot use a cobalt liner to work, that is crazy talk. I am sad my lipstick is broken. I cannot wait to have a relaxing bath.

Last week I received my March Glossybox, here it is:
The theme for March was Metropollitain Chic, pretty much stuff to prep us for the spring.
The 5 items we got were:
  • L'oreal Paris Youth Code Dark Spot Corrector Serum: Full Sized, 30 ml retails for $29.99
  • ModelCo Cheek and Lip Tint in Rossy Red: Full Sized, 10 ml, retails for $24.00
  • Jergins Natural Glow, 3 days to Glow in Fair to Medium: Full Sized, 120 ml, retails for $12.99
  • Tresseme Platinum Strength Deep Conditioning Treatment: Full Sized, 177 ml, retails for $5.99
  • BM Beauty Platinum Tiara Eye Shadow: 1 g in size, full size is 2 g and retails for $10.80 (making this sample $5.40 in value).

We also got two coupons, on for $3 off any YouthCode item and one for a free cleanser when you buy any nose strips from Biore. I need more Biore Combination skin cleanser so I will be using this right away.
Overall I am extremely happy with this box....4 full sized items, items with makeup and colour to them. Skin care that is amazing and a hair mask. This is exactly the type of box I want every month.

I'm super excited to try out the youth code serum, I love the original serum so to try out this one is exciting. While I do not tan nor do I like a tanned look I can definitely find a good home for the Jergins,. My hair has been fried lately and it needs a good mask. Modelco lip/cheek tint looks amazing and I adore all lip stains.

I recently got my January Glossybox and I thought I would share it with you.

There were our usual 5 items with a bonus item in this box.

Wella Professionals Brilliance Leave-In Mousse:

Full size - 190 g /$17.99

Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme:

0.2 oz sells for $28.00 (I have no clue how big this "sample" is)

Burt's Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk & Honey Body Lotion:

Sample size is 25 g - full size is 170 g - $12.99

Nivea Essential Lip Care:

Full size - 4.8 g - $2.00

Glossybox Best in Moisture.
Pretty much to celebrate a year in Canada they are "revisiting" past favourite moisturizing products.

I got Befine Fine Food Skin Care Sample Pack. This comes from their August box and features 5 packets of skin care products. Only one is a moisturizing product (strange isn't it?).

Packets are valued at $2 on their site but I've seen them for $0.50 at some stores.

Other items received were the Curel hand lotion from November (full sized valued at $3.99), B. Kamins products from September ( I figured the value at about $8.00). Others (360 people) got an expired item (which they say they will take care of).

Bonus item. Beauty So Clean Cosmetic Sanitizing Wipes:

12 wipes recived - 48 wipes sells for  $12.50

Review:

My intial reaction was joy!

I was over the moon to try another Wella product (I only ever tried the glossy spray from September's bo) I feel everything else is meh again.

But then the Nieva's lip balm, while an item I like, it is a product that only costs $2 and hardly ads to make the box worth $21.

I was shocked at how small the Too Faced was, why would they even produce something so small?

Then a Burt's Bees product, it has never been a brand I get too excited about, but hand lotion is always welcome in my house.

Befine excited me but then after realizing it had nothing to do with moisture I started to feel the "Best in Moisture" was just a pot to get rid of items they had extra of, mainly because mine doesn't have any moisturizing properties to it except one mask.

I'm kind of getting baffled by how this place is working, one or two fab product then a bunch of drug store. Meh.

I would like to share what my co-worker thought of her box. After asking me if I was going to keep on subscribing she confided in me she got the B. Kamins items. I exclaimed that they were great, but she told me she was unhappy because now she had gotten 3 lip items in one box and that is was just getting sad.  After some thought I agreed.

I hope their one year anniversary box blows me away with items that are exciting and new brands, otherwise it might be the end of our relationship.

On another note, the glossybox.ca site said that the January box would be "Discover World Beauty" and several people assumed this meant beauty products from around the world. They also put up this photo on Facebook....
What we were told was January's theme online.
So I am not surprised many people were really upset to get left over items, $2 items and just general drug store items. Some claimed to sign up for this month just because of the theme. I do feel the company is trying (but not succeeding ) at getting better and many of the comments on their facebook are just mean and out of control. I think people just need to simmer down a bit and stop bombarding the page with negative comments.

When asked about the theme this was their reply "The theme was "Globally Inspired", and since we're representing Canada, our GLOSSYBOX reflected the harsh winters we endure with some ultra-moisurizing and nourishing products." -from their facebook page.

My final verdict - if I had to grade this box it would be a B. I say it is an improvement, but nothing like their earlier boxes (that cost $6 less a month) and are really crappy compared to the other international versions. I give them credit for improvement, but they need to step it up ASAP.

I give this box a B and a meh from me personally.

If you would like to join or try the Glossybox please feel free to use the code GLOSSY55 for a 10% discount off your first box.

I received my December GlossyBox last week and I have a bit of mixed feeling on it...but for now I'll just show you what is inside.
First off a shiny silver box, a first from what I understand and actually I really like it.
Inside is a sticker with the LouLou magazine logo on it, this months box was curated by Loulou and features tips from them on the product card.
GlossyMag and the Lulu subscription card
Product Card
The box:
Tresemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo.
This product is meant for Fine/Oil hair (which I do not have) and is a small or travel bottle with 56 g inside.  I have tried this before and let us just say I tossed it.

A full sized product is 161 g and retails for $5.99.

Aveeno Positively Ageless Day SPF 30 Moisturizer.
This is an airy day moisturizer with SPF 30 UVA and UVB protection (a major plus).

This is a full sized product at 75 ml and retails for $22.99
Others may have received the Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer ( I feel my profile that I filled out might have warranted this product a bit more but I am extremely happy to receive the ageless version)

Aveeno Positivley Radiant Tinted Moisturizer (fair to light) SPF 30.
This is another daytime moisturizer from Aveeno. It also has both UVA and UVB protection

This is a full sized product at 75 ml and retails for $22.99

Avon Glazewear Intense LipGloss in Sundance.
This is a lipgloss sent from Europe that has not been made since 2005. That means this product is at least 7 years old (maybe even older).

This is a full sized product at 6 ml and has been out of production since 2005.

Revlon Nail Enamel in Silver Screen.
This is a colour not currently sold by Revlon Canada.
Some people received limited edition colours from 2+ years ago and others ones with "rite aide" discount stickers on them (an American drug store chain).

This is a full sized product at 15 ml and retails for $5.99 (discontinued/past limited edition colours are at dollarama for $2 currently).

GlossyBox Lashes.
These lashes come with a 1 ml bottle of rubberized latex.

These are a full sized product with lash glue and are exclusive to the box. Their value is estimated at $12.50

Tresemmé Spit Remedy Sachet.
These are sample packets of the shampoo and conditioner at 9 ml each, they were a bonus item in the box.

A full sized product is 700 ml and retails for $5.99 for the shampoo or conditioner.

We also received a bonus pair of earrings. They are valued at $14.99

My thoughts?
Not so glossy from my end. A product that hasn't been made or sold since 2005, a discontinued nail polish. Really? The lashes are in no way worth the $12.50 either, which I don't care about, I just think it is some serious over estimating on their part there to make the box look like it is worth more.

The earrings were a nice bonus, but they look cheap and I could never expect to pay that much for them. Why aren't they even on the product card? Strange.

As for the whole Lulu part, I cannot see how they curated this box at all. There is a sheet with a standard subscription deal on it, nothing better than what you can get any time of the year (in face I get a better deal currently).

Overall:
So no that I've nit picked the thing to death, I would like to say this box let me down. I wanted to try new brands and up and coming items that I might over look when shopping, the Aveeno definitely delivers in this area but there are not one but two day creams in the box so even that is silly. I hope I like the Tresemmé dry shampoo, I hated it last time I used it so much that I tossed it.

This is a complete drug store box, with an old European Avon item tossed in (I love avon but this is Glossy fault), major let down.

I will stick with for one more month, it will be their anniversary box so I have high-high-high hopes.

PS after last months initial mehh reaction I seriously grew to love that box. I love that Curel hand lotion, the Nicole By OPI nail polish is just fantastic (holiday themed indeed) and the vitabath was amazing as was the Kryolan blush. I learned way after the fact the lip gloss was a European exclusive and that made it seem a bit more exciting. I doubt my feelings towards this months will change though.

Last Tuesday I attended a fabulous holiday party hosted by Glossybox Canada at the Marc Anthony Salon.

Cannot tell you how amazing it was. There were brands there that had been featured in the past boxes there to showcase their products and mingle. There were stations set up to get your hair done in braids, have fabric woven in or even buns.  NYX was even doing peoples makeup. There was a nail station where you could do your own nails using Nicole By OPI not even released yet collections (Selina Gomez and Modern
