Beauty Vixen

Recently I got the chance to try out a few of L'oreal Paris Canada's new masks and scrubs. There are two lines, the Pure-Clay Mask line and the Pure-Sugar Scrub line. Now, I haven't tried every product in both lines, but I will share with you what my experiences are with these products since they suite my skin type.

I have dry, oh so dry, skin. It also is mid-late 30's skin now, so off-balanced hormonal break out skin now too (fun new things happening every day).

Pure-Clay Cleansing Mask - Clarifying & Smoothing:
First off I am going to look the Pure Clay mask I got to try, Pure Clay Cleansing Mask. Made with Yuzu lemons and three different clays, it is supposed to help with removing built-up impurities, dirt and pollution.

You are supposed to apply a thin layer over your skin and let it sit for 10-15 minutes and use it two times a week.  It is a yellow clay tone and goes on real smooth onto the face with just a tiny bit of grit to it. It feels really creamy on the face and dries up on the skin like a typical clay or mud mask.

With repeated use you should have some improvement on uneven skin tone and texture.
I really like this mask, which surprised me because mud isn't always nice on my dry skin. I think since it has such a creamy texture and maybe the blends of clay in it really help stop my skin from getting all dry or burn (yes mud can make my skin burn like hot fire). Overall my skin was left feeling smooth and soft after using it.

Pure-Sugar Scrub For Dull Skin - Brightens and Refreshes
This scrub is formulated with three types of sugar, what types? I honestly don't know, but they feel nice and scuff of my dead skin with almost no effort. It also has grapeseed oil, acai and monoi oil in it to help it brighten up the skin.

This one you apply to your skin (and lips), massage around and then rinse off, they recommend using it three times a week. I like to leave it on for 10 minutes. This one really reminds me of Fresh's strawberry sugar scrub, which I love so much, but without the strawberry seeds.
I like how well this texture of mask removes my dead skin. I often get flaky spots on my skin and only a sugar scrub seems to get rid of it. Oh also my skin feels so smooth and soft after using it, I just love it.

Pure-Sugar Scrub For Dry Skin - Smoothes and Nourishes
This baby is a lot like the Dull Skin version, three sugars in it as well. Unlike the other mask, this one has a creamy texture, and the sugar is a little less prominent making it feel less abrasive. It also feels buttery on the skin, that is because it has coconut oil and cocoa butter in it to help nourish dry skin.

Just like the other mask, L'oreal recommend applying it, massaging it on face and lips and then rinsing it off and using it three times a week. I like to leave it on for 10 minutes like I do with my other sugar masks (Fresh for example).
This mask feels way more buttery then the Dull Skin version. I can only assume that feeling comes from the coconut in it.
There is also a Pure-Sugar Scrub for Oily skin, which features Kiwi seeds and is green just like a kiwi puree. As well there is Pure-Clay Energizing Mask, it is grey toned has charcoal in it. Since my skin isn't inclined to respond well to these masks (dry skin here) I haven't tried them.

Overall I really like these products! I have been switching between the two sugar ones in my routine and really like how they both work. The Pure Clay mask also has been great to my skin, no burning plus,  my post acne pigmentation seems to be responding well to it.

What do you think of these masks or scrubs? Have you tried them yet? What is your favourite type of face mask or scrub?

Dr Roebuck's Healthy Skin Pack is the ultimate gift, travel pack or trial pack. Featuring 4 key products from the Dr. Roebuck's range. This pack includes 4 separate tubes of FACE, LIPS, PURE and LIPS. -beautyboutique.ca
A little while back I won a quad of mini products from a Dr. Roebuck's Instagram contest. While I have tried (and loved) their products in the past, this little mini set seemed the perfect way for me to give some of their products a serious try and was perfect for my recent trip to Vancouver.

Dr. Roebuck's The Healthy Skin Pack has four minis in it.  Pure 20ml, Face 20ml, Polish 20ml, Lips 10m. The set costs $39.95 Cad and the brand can be found at Shoppers Drug Marts and BeautyBoutique.ca
Face I had tried before, I actually really love this cream. It is a great day or night cream that has anti-aging properties to it. I find you need a very small amount of it to really hydrate your skin. I really liked using it on my vacation as a day cream (before my sunscreen).

Pure is also a day / night cream. It helps with hydrating and locking in hydration for drier skin types. The brand recommends you use a thicker layer that will leave your face a bit white and wait for it to absorb into the skin after a few minutes. Because Pure is so thick and it  is meant to go on in a thicker manner, I liked using it on my vacation at night. My skin was a bit beat up after a long day and it is a nice treat and almost like a mask.
Polish is a fantastic face scrub and mask all in one. It scuffs off your dead skin cells using jojoba beads and if you leave it on a few minutes helps exfoliate further. It is recommend you remove it wit their toner, Tone. I did not have Tone so I just used a wet facecloth. I used this every other night when I was away and I really liked how soft my skin was. I always followed it up with Pure.

Lips is a lip balm. Nothing too fancy here. It is really thick and almost mask like. So when my lips started to get dehydrated from the fact we were on the ocean, I wasn't drinking enough water, eating out all the time and drinking a bit too much alcoholic beverages it was a really nice lip treat. I actually really love this stuff. The ingredient list is incredibly simple (like all Dr. Roebuck products), Shea Butter, Macadamia Oil, Olive Oil, Beeswax, Vitamin E, Grapefruit Oil, Peppermint Oil, making it even more effective at fighting dry lips.
I really liked this set, it is a great way to try out a bunch of products from the brand without breaking the bank. Also fantastic to travel with. The only thing that threw me is it has two lotions but no cleanser. I brought along my travel sized Fresh Soy Face Cleaner, so it wasn't a big issue, but I would have loved if it was an all that you need type of set.

What are your must have travel essentials? Would you like a set like this for your next trip?

Quo is starting 2017 off on the right foot with their limited edition Spring collection. It features 2 eye shadow palettes, 2 face palettes, 3 matte lip crayon, brush set and a eye brow palette. All the palettes feature a beautiful coloured pattern on them.

Matte Lip Crayon ($12.00):
There are three shades in the Matte Lip Crayons, I was lucky enough to be sent Pretty in Pink. It is a gorgeous matte shade that is housed in a twist up tube that matches it in colour (which is great when wanting to pick a shade at a glance). There is even a sharpener hidden on the back end so that you can  keep it nice an pointed at all times. I am really liking this little gem right now. I love this type of crayon and this shade.

Brow Palette ($12.00):
With two brow shades in a powder, a highlighter, a eyebrow cream and tool with a spooly with an angled brush, this palette has it all. As someone who cannot get enough of any brow products I am obsessed with this palette. My hair colour is always changing and so are my brow needs,  this palette helps me out because it has two shades that I can custom mix to exactly what I need.  The cream helps set it and keep my brows in place while the highlight is pretty shimmery but looks fantastic when applied lightly. It also has a big mirror which makes this great to take with you anywhere.

Eye Shadow Palette ($18.00):
There are two quads in this collection, No Pressure and Rock It! They both are more neutral palettes, No Pressure is filled with shimmery shades while Rock it! is matte only shades, making them both very different. Each pan is gigantic and contain 3.4g each and have a large mirror.

With No Pressure the shades look glittery in the pan but apply more just a beautiful glowy look when applied. Three of the four are pastel like and the last more bronze.
Rock It! with a cream, off nude peach, brown and slate-grey this palette has a good range for nude quad. I feel you could do a full look a few ways with it. The shadows are pretty soft but apply not so pigmented when I try to swatch them, but they do look fantastic on my eyes. I love to use this for an everyday look right now. It has just been right for me, all matte and with light colour. The darkest shade makes for a great liner too.

Face Palette ($20.00):
There are two limited edition face palettes realized in this collection, Heat It Up  and Down To Earth. Each have two highlighters, two blushes and two bronzers housed with a gigantic mirror. Each pan is 3.6g in size (just .0.2g more then each shadow).

Heat It Up's top row has a matte champagne-pink highlighter or light blush that is matte, a matte pink blush and a super  champagne with slightly less pink in it then the first highlighter, but with way more shimmer in it. The second row has a shimmery bronzer , a bright matte pink blush and a matte bronzer that is similar to the first bronzer.  All the products go on extremely nice and are fairly pigmented. I love that both blushes are matte and that there is a matte option for highlighting and bronzing. I mean 4 out of the 6 colours are matte, which is great because you can always mix them with the shimmery ones for more options.
Down To Earth's top row has in it yellow toned brown shade (not light enough to be a highlighter but not really a bronzer), a shimmery pink with a bit of peach tones to it and a shimmery light brown bronzer. The second row has a matte darker brown bronzer, a matte pink with peach tones that is a bit more vibrant then the one in the row above and a matte brown bronzer with orange undertones. Once again all the shades blend well and are really soft. They are quite buttery actually, even the matte ones. This palette runs a bit orange for me and features more bronzers then anything so it really isn't my cup of tea. That being said it is still really nice and if I wasn't so darn pale it might be the right thing for me. Once again I do like that there are four mattes in a palette of only six.
There is also a Metamorphic Brush Set ($60.00) that is a gorgeous set with 8 brushes with rose gold ferrules and baby blue tapered handles with a case that is holographic. I love quo brushes and own quite a few, so this one is a pretty that I think is worth looking at.

All in all this is a great collection. It has large blush/bronzer/highlight palettes, large matte and shimmer eyeshadow palettes, beautiful lip crayons, a brow palette and some fantastic brushes, not much to say that is negative about this collection especially since it is pretty darn affordable.  Another great thing is the display has testers for everything, which is great to try them all out.  I would take a look at what colours work for you with the palettes.

Are you getting excited for the Spring? Do you think any of these products will help you get in a Spring state of mind?

Too Faced is known for their bronzers and their vast selection of them. Their Little Black Book Bronzers features their complete collection of bronzers so you don't have to choose just one to try out, you can try them all.
Best of all they are all permeant selections, so if you fall in love with one (or two, of all of them), you can go an buy a full sized. It basically a great way to try a bunch of bronzers out without guilt and get yourself a full bronzer wardrobe without the full commitment.
Each bronzer comes in a  smaller format, hence the "little" in the palettes name, but all are a great size if you ask me, plus there are 8 in it.
Chocolate Soeil:
This is a classic bronzer and probably the most famous in the set. It is a matte bronzer that contains cocoa powder and it actually smells like chocolate! I like this one for contouring since it is matte and blends so well.

Milk Chocolate Soleil:
Just like the Chocolate Soeil, it contains cocoa powder and is matte, but it is lighter. Because I am so fair I love this one for my everyday bronzing needs.

Dark Chocolate Soleil:
just like the other Soleils this one is gorgeous, smells like cocoa and is matte, but it is deeper. While I am definitely too pale of a gal to pull this one off on a daily bases I have used it a bit lightly mixed with the Chocolate Soleil when I contour and have really found it is a great blendable bronzer.

Snow Bunny:
This is a bronzer that I consider also a blush. It has 4 stripes on it, two bronzer shades, one pinker and one that is a highlighter. It isn't easy to just select just one so your best bet is to just blend them all together for a luminous bronzer-blush shade.

Pink Leopard:
This bronzer features 3 shades in a  leopard spotted design in it.  When swished it all together you get bronzer that is glowy and stunning. It has a lot more pink shades in it, which is why it is a great blush for the fairer and a great illuminator for those with darker skin tones.

Beach Bunny:
Just like Snow bunny this is a striped bronzer. This features 4 stripes of bronzy and glowy shades that can be blended together to make luminous glow bronzer. Since it doesn't have the pink shade in it like Snow Bunny you can wear it just as a bronzer or as a bronzer blush.

Endless Summer:
This one should last you 16+ hours (hence the endless part of its name), it also has a pretty nice glow to it.

Sun Bunny:
Featuring two shades this laminating bronzer has a pretty pink undertone that gives you a bit of a flushed look to your face. You can mix and blend the shades to make it lighter or darker depending on your needs/wants.
So there you go, Too Faced Little Black Book of Bronzers, a palette that is super cute filled with 8 great bronzers for what every your needs or moods are. I love this set because I am not the biggest bronzer user, so a full sized of any of these would never get used up, so now I can indulge in a bunch of different choices without guilt of having 8 full sized hanging around.

You can pick it up at TooFaced.com.

For the last few weeks I've been trying out some Fresh face products, I must say I really am impressed. My skin just loves the products.

Today we talk about the Sugar Face Polish.

A Natural Exfoliant with real strawberry seeds. Refines & Nourishes:
A nourishing exfoliant made with pure brown sugar and strawberry seeds that refines and hydrates for a more radiant complexion.
PRODUCT DETAILS: Sugar Face Polish with nourishing brown sugar and real strawberry seeds is an innovative formula for all skin types that exfoliates and hydrates the skin, instantly revealing a softer, smoother, more radiant complexion.
THE PROOF:
  • 97% reported improved skin texture and softer, more supple skin
  • 94% felt it had an exfoliating effect and decreased rough patches
  • 88% noticed soothed skin that felt silky and velvety
  • 85% said their skin was radiant     -fresh.com
Ingredient list:
Sucrose, Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Peg-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Fragaria Vesca (Strawberry) Fruit, Propylene Carbonate, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candellila) Wax, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter, Limonene, Fragrance (Parfum), Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Fragaria Ananassa (Strawberry) Seed Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Prunus Domestica Seed Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Water (Aqua), Tocopheryl Acetate, Potassium Sorbate, Citral, Geraniol, Linalool, Citronellol, Bht.

How to Use: After you wash your face and it is still a little moist, you apply the scrub to your face and massage it around (avoiding the eyes, of course) and then let it sit for 5-10 minutes. It can be used 3-4 times a week.  Easy enough, right. I usually take a bath while I wear a mask so I am not tempted to do anything rash, like wash it off.

My Thoughts: Initially when I first used this scrub I though that there was no way strawberry seeds and sugar would be a thorough enough of a scrub for my skin, I was wrong. The sugar and the seeds work together to scuff my skin free of dead skin without being harsh. Plus the smell is amazing.

Really the smell is amazing!  It adds to the spa like experience of this product for sure. It is fruity and sweet but not of strawberries  in a  way that is juvenile, just a perfect scent that makes you question if you can eat this stuff (don't do it, but I'm telling you that you'll want to).

I also like that the scrub acts as a sort of a hydrating mask when you leave it on for the 5-10 minutes. My skin didn't feel tight or dry when I left it on, but soft and plump.

Once rinsed my skin feel so soft and smooth it really is amazing. I often get some strange flaky skin thing going on between my eyebrows a few weeks after I pluck (it seems to be a follicle reaction thing). It drives me mad. This scuffed it right off without any issue, while leaving the sensitive cheeks soft and not dried out like many other exfoliatents can.
Pros:
  • Smells really good
  • Uses natural ingredients to exfoliate your skin gently but effectively
  • It has hydrating factors to it so it won't dry out your skin
  • It can be worn like a mask
  • Gentle enough for 3-4 times a week usage
  • You don't need a lot to get a good scrub
Cons:
  • Pricey, Fresh isn't an inexpensive brand
  • If you are a quick exfoliater and don't want to spend the 5-10 minutes wearing it you won't get the same effects
Overall:
I really like this scrub. I truly love how smooth my skin feels every time I use it. I am almost surprised every time. "Wow, my skin is so smooth and soft", every time, like I forget or something. Ph, and it also smells just fantastic. I also think a jar would last  a very long time since you don't have to be overzealous with the product to make it work really well for you.

Have you tried Fresh's Sugar Face Polish? What do you think of it?
