Matrix Biolage RAW Color Care and Heat Styling Primer Review

Last year I absolutely fell head over heels in love with Matrix Biolage R.A.W. Recover line. While the Recover shampoo and conditioner were great for my heavily damaged hair, it isn't meant for colour treated hair, so when I heard that the R.A.W. line was launching a line specifically for colour treated hair, I got really excited.

Biolage R.A.W.  (Real Authentic Wholesome) is a line of natural origin formula hair care products, free from silicones, sulfates, parabens and artificial colorants. They also are vegan, biodegradable, and come in bottles made of 95% post consumed plastic.

The clincher for me is the products leave your hair feeling amazing and I am not missing any of the silicones or sulfates that regular hair have at all.

BIOLAGE R.A.W. COLOR CARE SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER
With Coconut Milk and Meadowfoam in them these products help maintain your coloured hair longer while keeping your hair feeling soft and healthy. I found that my red hair lasted longer and faded less, it also bleed onto my towels and pillow cases a significantly smaller amount (which is always a good thing).

I discovered with the formula I needed a bit more shampoo than I thought, so I would pour a little out, work it into my scalp and then add more as needed. I found it lathered really well without being over the top, just a good amount.  My scalp no matter how great or oily I let my hair get, felt clean as did my hair after each use. My hair also gained a lot of body through using this shampoo (and its conditioner), which meant I wasn't getting any product buildup (since there was no silicone in it).

The conditioner, unlike the shampoo, I found I needed less than I thought each time. I feel I am still of the silicone trained mind that I need to just slather my hair with conditioner to make it feel nice. The truth is though I needed a surprisingly small amount of this conditioner to get my hair to feel like it was covered in it. It is recommended to leave it on for one to two minutes, which I always do, if not more.
The end results after using the shampoo and conditioner is that my hair faded slower and my hair stayed more vibrant. In addition to this my hair was light, fluffy, its natural wave got amped up to an almost loose curl.  My hair had so much body that I do not think I can accurately describe it, but man my hair had body after each wash. I can only equate these changes to the fact that this is a natural line and there are no silicones in it to weigh down my hair or to cause buildup in it. I also found ever if I didn't use styling products, my hair just looked amazing and healthy and I as a result was happy and smiling more, thus making me get even more compliments on my hair and how I looked. Yes, this made me smile.

Together the Colour Care Shampoo and Conditioner made me really happy. Light fluffy hair that was naturally more wavy and had more body, my colour lasted longer and stayed more vibrant longer with less bleeding.

I am going to also add, I love these bottles! Yes, they do look like juice bottles, yes that is adorable. That is not the real reason I love them, I love them because they fit in my hand perfectly and never slip, they have a nice wide hole so I can pour product out easily and without hassle. They also never crack. I brought my old Recover ones into work to use as shampoo bottles  (FYI I am a dog groomer) and after 1.5 years they never cracked on me. Plus they are made of 95% recycled plastic, they just are prefect.

BIOLAGE R.A.W. HEAT STYLING PRIMER
When I think heat protectants, I always think silicone, silicone, silicone. I mean I always just thought that was the magic ingredient that provided the heat protection. Biolage R.A.W. is here to prove me wrong though.

Packed with Coconut Milk and Meadowfoam, this protectant helps protect up to 450°F/205°C and delivers a very light hold. I usually apply a small amount to my towel dried hair and then either dry my hair with a blow dryer, or let it air dry and straighten it or curl it. I found my curls or straight hair stayed better and the tools didn't fry my hair at all. Since I am growing my hair out a bit, I started straightening it a lot more (like a lot more!!!) and my hair always looked really good, held the straightness without getting frizzy later in the day and hasn't gotten all damaged. Because it is silicone free, I don't find my hair gets that silicone oiliness or weighted down feeling I get with other protectors, and I never get long term buildup in my hair. Since the line has left me with so much more curl to my waves, if I do choose to go curly, I just pick and choose strands of my air dried hair to enhance with more curl. I find they last all day and look bouncy and full. They don't get frizzy either and feel 100% natural, as though I added no product.

Bonus reason to love it, it is made in Canada.

This works really well with the Colour Care shampoo and conditioner, they have the same key ingredients, and don't give me buildup on my hair of silicone. I feel like my hair has more body when I use them together, more natural wave or bounce and just feels healthier and shinier ( I cannot stop touching my hair).
Naturally dried hair after using the shampoo and conditioner
Overall Matrix's Biolage R.A.W. line has won me over and I really didn't think it could get better, and now I see it can. The best natural products ever now have a line meant for my colour treated hair and me and my hair are loving it.

You can find the Biolage R.A.W. line at select salons, head on over to Matrix's Canadian site to find a store near you.

Have you tried anything from Matrix Biolage R.A.W. before? What do you think of natural hair care products?
