Beauty Vixen

I recently saw that Julep was having one of their famous Mystery Bags for Valentine's Day. Since I hadn't done an order in so long and thought the two exclusive polishes they were advertising for the bag were cute, I decided to take the plunge and order it.

Julep was advertising that their Cupid's Mystery Clutch for $24.99 Us would contain:
Inside, you’ll find a $100+ bundle of secret surprises, including two brand-new, super-fun top coats designed just for smitten kittens: our sweet-as-can-be Yuki (Classic with a Twist) and va-va Valentina (Bombshell).
So what did I get in the Clutch?
I got 5 nail polishes ( Joanne, Rochelle, Margit, Yuki and Valentina), a gel eyeliner (Smokey Plum)  and a lip gloss (Splendid).  Yuki and Valentina were exclusive to the mystery clutch.

Valentina (Bombshell): Pink chevron glitter top coat
Julep Valentina Nail Polish
Joanne (Boho Glam): Smoky plum crème
Julep Joanne Nail Polish

Margot (It Girl): Mushroom with rose shimmer
Julep Margot Nail Polish
Rochelle: (It Girl): Boysenberry shimmer
Yuki (Classic with a Twist): Snowy heart glitter top coat
Julep Yuki Nail Polish
Gel Eyeliner in Smokey Plum: A Plum shade
Lip Gloss in Splendid: Sheer heirloom rose shimmer

Finally the Clutch:
I also ordered an extra polish.
Gene (Rose Quartz for January):This gold-capped rose quartz iridescent shimmer is the January 2015 addition to the Birthstone Collection.

Overall I am ok with this mystery selection. It seems everyone that got the bag essentially got the same thing. If you go by the regular value of the items (which is how they figure out the value) it is worth exactly $100. So for $24.99 US it isn't too shabby, way more that what you would get for the same price in one of their monthly Maven boxes. But I am a tad bit disappointed that when they say $100+ you are getting $100 flat. I know not to expect to be the person who gets a crazy over the top bag, but I would like it to be maybe a bit more than the bare minimum. Or at the very least a bit more variety. 5 polish, yawn. Julep has so many fantastic items out there they really could have just tossed in something bit more exciting.

All that being said. I love the nail polish colours, I am glad I got plum for the liner, I love purples and the lip gloss packs quite the colour punch and I really like it. So since I love everything in the mystery clutch but just wish it wowed me a bit more, I am going to say this was a good buy.

If you are at all interested in trying out Julep, they have a fantastic offer every month to get your first month for free (just pay the shipping). Click here and use the code they provide.

Not too long ago I got my August Julep Maven Box *hurray*. I was quite excited for this one because I managed to swap out some items and get a really exciting box. Plus I used my Jules rewards so the box was free. *hurray again*

I settled for the CLASSIC WITH A TWIST box ...
Classic With a Twist

...which had a liner, Katie (Orchid iridescent chrome) and Avni (African violet shimmer)polishes in it. I swapped out the liner for the Sweep Eyeshadow Palette in  Neutrals. So without further adieu here are swatches...
Katie left and Avni right
Katie on my middle finger and Avni on my ring finger
I really really like the shadows. I've yet to try any Julep makeup so it was a real perk to get a nice palette like this in my box.

If you are at all intrigued by the Julep Maven program I use the code FREEBBOX for a free box...all you pay is for shipping. After that boxes are $20 a month and include shipping

This past week the annual Sephora VIB Sale was on, and with the ability to save 15% off anything in store I was a mission to find something I needed/wanted. It was actually pretty hard to think of anything at all I should get...I really didn't need at thing. After picking up tons of stuff for friends I finally got the perfect item.
This Too Faced Candy Bar palette offers 10 eyeshadows, a blush and highlighter all in a cute little iPhone 5 case...perfect for on the go or travel. It is regularly $30 CAD so I thought it was quite a good deal too.
I was welcomed to my Julep Maven box for April yesterday. It was great to find this little box at my door. This month I went for the It Girl box, which featured 3 bright polishes and two candies.
Flora: Exotic dragon fruit with blue shimmer Bailey: Hyped cobalt sheer Maren: Electric bubblegum sheer with blue sheen. Think I am most excited about Flora...so pretty. I'm very excited about these colours this month.
If you're invested in joining Julep Maven or even just want to try it I have a referral link (here) and if you use the code FREEBOX you will get (surprise surprise) a free box.

I had the pleasure of meeting up with two amazing Canuk bloggers on the weekend too...Sparkled Beauty and Rasilla from In a Nutshell. The two of them were so kind as to give me some goodies. Sparkled Beauty gave me a set of lashes, just the type I love, clear banded as well as a two pack of NYC lip balms. Meridith from Et Tu and You raves about these lip balms so I am super excited to give them a try.
Rasilla was so kind as to gift to me this amazing Quo/Orly SmartGels lamp. I have the original lamp but it is bulky and kinda of awkward. This baby is usually about $100 so seeing the $19.99 price tag makes me not feel too much guilt over her giving it to me. Thanks guys for the goodies.

While out and about I popped into a few Shoppers Drug Marts. I managed to grab some limited edition Essence goodies that I have been searching for as well as some natural Life Brand Baby wipes. The wipes were $2.99 and great for cleaning up after swatching for the blog.
As for the Essence I managed to score the Kalinka Beauty blush in 01 East Side Story (a beautiful bright orange-apricot), from the Bloom Me Up Collection a Blush Stick in 01 Chasing Lacy and a Shimmer Powder in 01 Rose It Up!. I  must say I love Essence collections for their inexpensive yet amazing items, but my collection of blushes/highlighters/bronzers is now getting even more out of hand. This year alone I've gotten three shimmer powders/highlighters...this must stop. Not that I am really complaining for the price tag/quality.

So that is what I picked up this weekend. I hope you all had a great weekend. Did you pick anything exciting up?

So I decided to try Julep out again. It has been almost two years since I ordered any boxes from them and thought it was a good idea to try them out again. Oh, and there was a free code so that was another reason (use the code FREEBOX for a free box)

I ordered the It Girl Welcome Box and a few other items.

So now I'm going to give you a break down of what Julep Maven is, incase you didn't know. Pretty much it is a subscription nail polish service. You fill out a survey and see what type of "Maven" you are, then you get assigned a box type that corresponds. Once a month you'll get an email showing you the four various Maven box options, you can stick with your assigned Maven box or pick another. Other perks include getting free shipping on other items ordered and the option to get other items at a discount. Not all boxes contain just polish, many have other items like lotions or makeup. You can easily skip boxes and it only costs $19.99 US a month.

Easy right?
So when I signed up I chose a welcome box for my free box. The It Girl Welcome Box has three polishes in it, Bunny, Libby and Elle
  • Libby: Rich teal crème
  • Elle: Plum frost
  • Bunny: Crisp white linen with fine gold shimmer
I also ordered "the New Neutrals" set which has 5 mini polishes in it.
  • Jane - Bombshell: Full-coverage rose gold multidimensional glitter
  • Esmee - It Girl: White silver microshimmer
  • Ava - Bombshell: Ballet slipper pink frost
  • Amery - Bombshell: Full-coverage silver multidimensional glitter
  • Veda - Classic with a Twist: Deep fig purple crème
  • Freedom Polymer Top Coat: A high-gloss top coat that dries smudge-free in five minutes
And finally I ordered the shade "Blakely" I know Blake is a girls name now, but Blakely will always be my dad's name to me. Described as a Purple and green molten

I am excited to try all of these out and give some good swatches in the next few week. I must note that the packaging of the bottles has improved a lot since I last ordered two years ago.  If you want to see a post I did back then with swatches please click here.

One of those improvements is the new brush, it is more flat and I love it. As well there is now a cap that comes off the lid so you can swatch it (and never end up with a wonky unaligned square lid again). Another is they now package the polishes in boxes, not just bubble wrap, much prettier.
If you want to sign up click here (using my referral code, I get points, points get you free boxes eventually, and give you good karma) and use the code FREEBOX for a free box (you just have to pay for shipping or spend $10 and get free shipping).

I hope you liked this post, let me know if you've ever tried Julep polishes before and what you think of them.

Leah, Hayden, Megan, Mellisa, Charlotte, Jode and Fast Dry Top Coat
I haven't had ample time to try these out yet, but I have done some swatches for you.

Hayden is a very neon orange, I never thought I would say that. It is very bright but creamy in tone. It does not go on easily, it takes a lot of work to get it smooth. Leah on the other hand went on really nicely but then peeled off within the day. I am not sure if these were just mu first time uses of the colours but that is about all I know about how they go on at this point.
