Beauty Vixen

Yes, summer is over, but it was 24 degrees out the other day. It is so warm and sunny it feels like late Summer. With that, I thought it would be a great time to talk about the 5 things I have liked the most this past summer.

The products are going to be hanging out with my Feather Friends from the summer collection. I do not know how I became a person who fell in love with decorative birds, but here I am ordering ones for the holiday season.
Biore UV Aqua Rich 50 SPF
I got a four-pack of these at Costco in the spring. I really enjoyed it. It is one of the few sunscreens that does not burn my eyes, which is a big deal in the hot summer months.

I did a full review here if you want to read it. They did a very good job of adapting the Japanese formula for the Canadian market, considering we do not allow all the ingredients here (which I really hope they update soon).
Dr. Scholl’s® Ultra Exfoliating Foot Mask *
I used this in the early summer to prepare my feet for sandal season, and it worked great. I had thick and flaky skin on my feet and didn't want to get a pedicure. I used it again after my pool closed. I tend to kick off the rough walls of the pool and get cuts, so I had to wait until after they healed to use it again.
I did a full review here. I love the multi-pack, which means I don't have to worry about picking up more and how well it just works. I also like that there is a lotion version, so I can keep the smooth feeling going as long as possible. Their Ultra-Hydrating Food Mask is also fantastic.
Pixi On-The-Glow Blush/Bronzer
I picked these up when I did a Shoppers Drug Mart order and have loved using them. Everyone talked so much about how great they were, and I now see why. I really liked using them in the hotter months for a glowy blush look. Really nice formula.
Joico Air Dry Styling Cream
Since I swam from Canada Day to Labour Day pretty much daily, I did not want to damage my hair more by styling it with heat. I ended up using this no-heat styling cream instead and let my hair air dry. I do really enjoy how my wavy hair decides how straight or curly it wants to be every time I wash it, this product helps it do that without weighing it down while preventing frizz.
Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Crush / Trader Joe's Brazil Nut Butter Products
Ok, I know it is not a single product...but hear me out. I went to Trader Joe's in June after a concert at Fallsview. I picked up the three Brazilian Nut Butter items they sell, Body Butter, Body Scrub and Body Wash (they all cost $5.99 USD). They are apparently a dupe of the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Crush scent. Since I have two minis of the Sol de Janeiro body spray, I figured I would focus on trying to use one up.
Since they all go so well together (I do not think the TJ is a dupe of the scent; the TJ smells a bit different), I just started using all 4 products daily. As a result, I used up a mini body spray by the end of September. Mission accomplished for intentionally using up a product.
So there you go, those are some of the things I really enjoyed this past season. I am actually looking forward to some fall weather in the next few weeks. The trees are now a great shade and I always enjoy walks with Bradley when we aren't going to pass out from the heat.

What have you been loving lately?

Joico recently launched a new hair care line called Defy Damage. Its main goal is to help defend hair against damage while maintaining colour treated hairs vibrancy.  The line claims to help make hair 5x stronger and maintain 90% of its colour vibrancy. I clearly had to try it out, and after a month it is finally time to give it a review.

DEFY DAMAGE PROTECTIVE SHAMPOO ( 300 mL / $24.95 SRP)
A rich, luxurious lather loaded with damage-preventing ingredients gently and swiftly sloughs away dirt, impurities, and buildup without roughing up the hair cuticle or stripping vibrant colour. The result: shiny, smooth, clean strands that are wonderfully resilient and healthy-looking. Free of SLS/SLES (sodium lauryl/ sodium laureth) sulfates
Washing away my colour is always a concern for me which is why I end up waiting so darn long in between washes and relying on dry shampoo. The end result is hair colour that lasts longer, but really dirty hair that never really gets clean. That being said with the Defy Damage Protective Shampoo I don't really have to worry about over washing my hair. I can wash it all I want and I don't wash out my dark colour, I also don't damage it. My hair isn't stripped of moisture or damaged from the whole process, in fact, it is stronger because of it. Best of all it doesn't create any buildup on my hair.

DEFY DAMAGE PROTECTIVE CONDITIONER (250mL / $25.15 SRP)
Replenishes moisture and builds resilience without weighing hair down, leaving strands soft, shiny, and healthy- looking after each use. Helps prevent daily damage & boost vital moisture
When it comes to conditioner, I like a lot of it, but I also don't want my hair weighted down. My hair is pretty dry and damaged from years of colouring and styling and needs a rich conditioner. This one is pretty darn rich without weighing down your hair. I found since I started using it that my hair has a lot more body to it while still getting enough moisture. It is definitely a good fit for anyone with damaged and/or colour treated hair.

DEFY DAMAGE PROTECTIVE MASQUE (150 mL / $27.65 SRP)
For bond strengthening & color longevity. This powerful at-home treatment goes deep to infuse hair with a brilliant, bond- strengthening defense system. The result? Less breakage; more protection from heat styling; and hair has instant softness and shine… the kind you can see and feel on contact. Deeply replenishes hair without weighing it down.
When it comes to hair nothing helps repair like a good hair mask. This mask is a great consistency, it isn't too thick so it still works great in a tube, but it also is just thick enough to coat your hair and act the way a mask should. I love how well it rinses out and how it doesn't leave it feeling weighed down. Every time I wash my hair, I add just a little to my ends to give them some extra hydration.

DEFY DAMAGE PROTECTIVE SHIELD (100 ML / $27.65 SRP)
To guard against thermal and UV damage. A true damage defense hero against the harsh effects of daily styling and exposure to UV and environmental pollution! This protective shield helps prevent damage and guards against color fade for beautiful, vibrant, healthy-looking hair. Used prior to styling, hair is fortified inside and out. Makes hair 4X more resistant to breakage during heat styling.  Protects against color fade. Leaves hair soft, shiny, and healthy-looking
This is my favourite of the products. It is a leave-in hair styling product that helps UV and heat protect your hair plus makes your hair stronger and softer. Every time I used it my hair felt so darn soft and manageable. Plus whenever I use it and dry my hair it dries incredibly straight with minimal effort and is full of body.
Overall this has been a great line for my hair. It really has everything I need. A great shampoo that prevents buildup while not stripping my hair of moisture or colour all while being SLS/SLES Sulphates free. A conditioner and mask that helps hydrate and repair my hair while not being too heavy. Finally, leave in that helps protect my hair from both heat and UV and always leave my hair feeling absolutely amazing after I use it. It really is a great line.

This is just about everything I could ask for in a hair care line for my damaged and colour treated needs.

What do you look for in the perfect hair care line?

The spring Lisa's sale is well underway and I finally go their. Their flyer and site boast new items from H2o+, Stila, Joico, as well as their usual brands, Annabelle, Marcelle, and all the perfumes they are known for.
Now last time I didn't get much, but this time I went nuts. All the new items were calling to me.
I picked up for a pal Thierry Mugler's Womanity. I got a great set that has a 100ml wash and lotion as well as a 80 ml au de parfume. Let me tell you something, cheaper then just the perfume...crazy talk.
I also got some amazing Stila finds. Lip gloss trio set for $7.99, Lip pencil for $7.99 and a brush set for $13.99.
I also go some small Hawiian Tropic lotions for $1.00 each, Joico mini hair spray for $1.99, Sally Hansen cuticle pusher set for $2.99, Sally Hansen Foot file for $1.99, as well as a generic brush set for $7.99.  My mom grabbed me a wine stopper for $2.50. I also got for gifts some UK Dairy Milk bars for $4.99 each. Finally I got myself an spf 45 spray on Neutrogena sunscreen.

Overall I think I did very well, I am in love with the Stila!!! I feel I could have gotten more of their items but held back.

If you need a new perfume I highly suggest checking out their rock bottom prices.
