2023 Halfway Point Movie Roundup

By Sunday, June 04, 2023 , ,

2023 is halfway over, so I thought it might be a good time to look at how I'm doing with my movie watching goals. I did a whole recap of my movie goals from 2022 and what I was hoping to watch for 2023 in my post "2022 Movie Roundup and 2023 Movie Goals". I am currently using Letterboxd to track my progress
First up, documentaries.  This year I said I would watch 12, and I've watched 3. This kind of sucks. Most docs that come out seem to be in series format now and it's just not working for me. I'm going to set aside some time and get working on this asap.  If you have any suggestions, please send them my way, I need inspiration.
Next up, new movies to me. I'm trying to do 50 again and am currently at 22. I think I'm doing pretty good. The new PVR has definitely helped with me recording movies I've always wanted to watch on TCM, as has having Crave/HBO since there is a new movie every week.
So far I've really enjoyed a lot of the newer movies. I went to the theatre once with my pal Melissa. We saw Scream 6. Somehow Scream has become our thing, we have seen all of them together in a theatre, except for Scream 2021 (aka scream 5) because the theatres were shut down at the time (I saw it at the drive-in at Halloween). We opted to go to a 19+ vip theatre so there would be no teens and we could have a drink. Our theme drink was comically large.
The hubs, Bradley and I have gone to the Drive-in twice so far. Once we saw Super Mario Bros and Champions and then we saw Guardians of the Galaxy and BlackBerry. Both were good experiences and I genuinely liked the movies. I truly love the drive-in and hope to go more now that it is open again, we always get to see at least two movies and a great price, plus Bradley gets to come along.
I haven't been really tracking the other movies I've been watching but may start to when we do themes. Last weekend we did a 80/90s parody weekend and watched the Naked Gun trilogy,  National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1 and both Hot Shots movies. Being kids of the 80s it was fun to watch them again. I think we'll be watching Airplane very soon.

So far it's been a good six months, I'm not sure I'm looking forward to many other movies so shout out some suggestions to me. Feel free to follow me over on Letterboxd
