Beauty Vixen

A little while ago I got sent some new Dove Deodorant items courtesy of ChickAdvisor / Butterly. Dove announced last year that they were going to launch a refillable deodorant option and it just so happens it is now in Canada. These are officially called Dove 0% Aluminum Refillable Deodorants, but I am not going to call them that because all deodorants have no aluminum in them, by law. I find it a redundant marketing ploy that I refuse to encourage.
I was sent the Coconut & Pink Jasmine Scent Starter kit and the Men+Care Ultimate Clean Touch Starter kit. Both come with a refillable stainless steel case that can apparently withstand a car driving over it and one refill that is 32 g. When you usually buy a stick of Dove deodorant you get either 45g or 74 g of product.
Inside each starter box you get the stainless steel case and one refill. The refill comes in a plastic pod that you twist onto the base. You then toss the lid into the trash (there is no recycling symbol on it). The deodorant doesn't go up or down and just stays inside the pod which takes some adjusting to.
The case it self feels super sturdy and is pretty compact so it is easy to take with you places. The formula seems to be the same as the regular ones sold by Dove. The men's one smells absolutely amazing to me and I would easily use start to use that on a regular bases. The Women's Coconut and Pink Jasmine also smells nice, but the men's is the scent I prefer.
Each time you refill the package you save 54% of the plastic that would go into a normal stick of deodorant. The plastic is 98% recycled but it also end of life plastic as it has to be tossed. The sticks are 29% smaller if comparing them to the 45 g size. I am not the best at math, but it really sounds as though the plastic reduction is minimal at this point.

Furthermore Dove (and most deodorant companies for that matter) have been really pushing a 0% Aluminum factor on their deodorants, and I have no clue why.  All Deodorants are aluminum free!!!! All, by law. So that being said I actually have grown aggravated with the marketing that has been going on.
On to the actual quality of the product, it is a good deodorant, if you like deodorants. I personally smelt by the end of the day. This is how my body usually is with deodorants, and is why I usually use antiperspirants (I get sweaty working a physical job).

Overall: It is a neat package that provides you with 29% less product and gives you 54% less plastic then the old school packaging (32g vs 45g) making it seem like green washing to me. It costs $19.99 for the starter pack making it an investment that would pay off if you planned on us it long term. Refills cost $11.99 for two 32g refills (64 g total).

The product itself is pretty good and while I like it, deodorants just aren't the best for me unless I am already wearing an antiperspirant.

Would I buy it again? I would buy antiperspirant refills if they become available in an instant. I actually like the compact packaging, the look, weight and feel of it all. But it seems Dove is pushing the 0% Aluminum point and isn't going to be doing that at all.

What do you think of this new concept? Innovating? Greenwashing?

Fresh Water Hydrating Liquid Hand Soap 500 ml:

Cool & Fresh Deodorant:
This is my favourite of all four Live Clean Deodrants, it smells fresh and clean while keeping me dry and smelling great. With none of the stuff you don't want (aluminum,  propylene glycol and parabens) and all the things you do (baking soda, corn starch and 99% naturally derived ingredients) it really does an amazing job.

Live Clean has been my go-to for Canadian made, clean body products for a while now, which is why I was so excited to see that they launched a line of deodorants.
With Baking Soda and Corn Starch, these sticks help keep you smelling great without being antiperspirant. They help stop you from smelling, which in reality is what a deodorant is supposed to do. The bonus with these is the corn starch and baking soda that help absorb moisture, thus keep you smelling great even longer.

The sticks feel like any other antiperspirant or deodorant stick, maybe less slick or waxy in texture.
As for the wear, that is where I was really impressed. I know deodorants are not antiperspirants and that I should not expect the same results, but I got almost spot on results. I wore this on several hard work days where I was sweating and really should have had some mild BO by the end of it only to smell like absolutely nothing. Nothing! I made my co-worker smell my pits to make sure I wasn't being biased, and she also stated my pits smelt like nothing. She said it was like I just had a shower. I also made Mr. Fox smell my pits a few times, he was hesitant but agreed I smelt like nothing. The fact that they both said nothing was probably the most impressive part, they didn't say fine or ok, their actual words were "nothing". Which really is the best I could ever hope for. Side note, I was also declared weird by both of them for making them smell my armpits.
Powder Clean:
I was honestly expecting a strong baby powder scent that would flash me back to 1992 when I used Teen Spirit's Baby Powder Soft antiperspirant, but I was pleasantly surprised that it was a soft mellow scent that smelt clean and just a tad bit like a baby powder like scent.
Sparkling Citrus:
When I think citrus, I usually think a mix of orange and lemon, but this deodorant has a bit more of a complete citrus scent which includes grapefruit. I am not a massive grapefruit fan, it really is my least favourite fruit, but the scent in this stick is mild enough that I really don't mind it at all. It smells fully citrus, fresh and generally clean.
Cool & Fresh:
This one falls into a typical aqua scent category, it smells a bit like a manly deodorant, but it is not too strong that it is overwhelming when applied. By far, this is my favourite scent.
Fragrance-Free:
There isn't much to say about this one, it is fragrance-free as the name states. It has no scent to it at all. Despite this, it still helps aids in keeping me staying fresh and smelling great.
Overall I am incredibly impressed with these sticks. Never did I think I would love a deodorant as much as I love antiperspirants, but here I am tossing my antiperspirant and using deodorant thanks to Live Clean. I also really like that there is a fragrance-free version for those who either do not want a scent or are allergic/sensitive to scent, that is a really big bonus.

Have you tried Natural Deodorants? What do you look for in them?

Over the years I switched from stick antiperspirant to spray and well it recently felt like a good time to try some spray deodorant out. Jason was kind enough to send me their Dry Spray Deodorant in Soft Rose and Fresh Cucumber.

As you may or may not know, deodorants don't stop sweat like antiperspirants do, they just stop you from smelling. It is a much more natural concept and is great for anyone looking to have a more natural or clean body care routine.
The idea of a spray deodorant seemed a bit odd to me since the majority of my experiences with deodorants have been with liquid roll-ons and sticks. I learned that Jason's spray is air propelled making it a great option for those eco-conscious consumers who want to avoid chemical propellants. It also has no aluminum, parabens and is vegan.

The sprays go on without any residue, I get no white marks or anything of the sort on my clothes. The spray is easy to apply and has a steady flow to it. It also dries instantly, so I am not left with a wet armpit, something I really hate.

So how did it wear on me? I actually really liked it. I was skeptical, really really skeptical, but the sprays proved why they have won a Best in Beauty Award from Allure. It sprayed smoothly, dried instantly, left no residue on my skin or clothes. All off to a good start. Both the cucumber and the rose smell really nice and fade to a subtle scent after the first few minutes.
As for stopping me from smelling, it worked really well in that department too. I found by the end of the day I didn't smell. I did find I could pull it off a second day without a shower if I reapplied in the morning, but not any longer than that.

The only real tip I can give is, do not, under any circumstances, apply this product right after you shaved your armpits. Do not do it! It will sting, not a ton, but enough not to like the feeling.

Overall I really have been enjoying using both sprays, I am actually shocked at how much I do not miss my antiperspirant. I cannot say this will be the case come the summer when the heat and humidity start to make me go into hyper sweat mode, but for now, it has been fantastic.

Have you tried any deodorants lately? What do you think of them?

Perspirex is different. It's perfume-free and non-staining formulation is clinically proven to provide effective protection from sweat and odour. One application works up to 3 days. Perspirex roll-on uses a patented formulation that minimizes irritation commonly associated with other aluminum chloride based antiperspirants making it suitable for delicate underarm skin. For optimum effectiveness it is essential that you apply Perspirex just before going to bed and to completely dry, unbroken skin. You can shower as usual in the morning but do not reapply. Maintain sweat and odour control by applying Perspirex 2-3 nights per week or as often as needed. http://www.farleyco.ca

Reviewing a antiperspirant isn't something I normally do. In fact I actually have been known to skip a day or two of it.

Now you think I'm crazy don't you? Well let me explain a bit.

I don't tend to sweat. I really don't. As a result I don't really shower or bathe everyday either (sometimes I do, some times I don't, it just depends). So once my antiperspirant is on after my shower or bath it can last a few days on me without issue. The real issue starts when I do have a bath or shower and totally forget to put it on, simply because it is no longer routine (this happens more often than I would like to admit). Then I get smelly and depending on the weather, if I go to gym or not and if I work, it can get bad.

When the hubby saw me reading a review for Perspirex a three day antiperspirant over at Canadian Fashinista's (aka Amber) page he chimed in and said "if you used that you wouldn't need to really it for a month".  This amused him so much. He reconfirmed with me that I just don't smell, unless I forget my deodorant all together. Which in the end was my real problem, I just don't remember to apply it.
So, I started looking into Perspirex a bit more. It turns out to work for 3 days on most people and up to 5 on others. Guess what? For me 7, even with showering and bathing. It's true.
I just apply it after I bathe on dry unbroken skin and it works for days, even if you shower.

Review time

Pros:
  • Works really really well for multiple days
  • No scent
  • I don't sweat and therefor don't smell
  • I don't have to remember to apply it for up to 5 day (7 for me but everyone is different)
  • You don't need much
  • You can bathe and shower and it still works
  • They sell it everywhere with the regular deodorant/antipersparants
Cons:
  • it is a tiny bottle (but you only need evert 3-5 days so you use much less)
  • it is pricy ($19.99 srp)
  • Roll ons can feel different if you're not used to them
Overall:
Don't let the tiny bottle and big price scare you away. You need it so infrequently it will last a long time. Plus, unlike traditional deodorants or antiperspirants that have scent you won't be applying it in excess just to get a scent and hope to cover things up during the day...you just need a bit and it will work for days, which makes it last a really long time and worth the extra money.

I love that I can shower with it and it still works, this might be its greatest feature. This is great for travellers or gym goers who usually touch up during the day.

I personally have started to sweat during the night or on long car rides, but not since I started using Perspirex. I don't worry when I wake up about having to run to take a shower first thing in the morning (I am seriously a night time bath person, it is what I enjoy).

This is a definite re-buy for me!

Want to learn more about how it works? Check out FarleyCo's page on Perspirex

Have you tried Perspirex before? What do you think of it or an antiperspirant that lasts for days and even through showering?
