Helena Lane Calming Skincare Set Review

by - Thursday, September 23, 2021

Helena Lane is a British Columbia based skin care brand, it focuses on natural skin care and the power of plants.

I was lucky enough to be gifted their Calming Collection set. The set is a great introduction to their products or a fantastic travel set. The set has 6 products meant to help those with normal, eczema prone, rosacea, inflamed, red hyper-sensitive, and/or itchy skin.
The set is a complete skin care routine and should last 2 to 3 weeks if it is the only items you are using.

Jojoba & Calendula Calming Cleanser 15ml

I adore cream cleansers, but have yet to try a natural one until now. This definitely feels different then the ones I am used to. I feel there is a film left on your face if you just splash water on it to wash it off, but if you use a wash cloth to rinse it is a lot better. Either way I highly recommend double cleansing anyways, so if you do that the residue feeling wont matter.
This is a cream cleanser that is thick and dense in the tin, I genreally just glide my fingers over it to get the amount of product I need. It is made up of Calendula and Jojoba Oil.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much makeup this removed from my face (even waterproof makeup), all of it. It left my skin feeling clean and smooth with a residue remaining on the skin (as mentioned above).

Calming Chamomile & Rose Geranium Hydrating Mist 30ml

This is a mist spray that can be used before moisturizing to add to they hydration process or to mildly cleanse the skin. It has a mild scent of Geranium and Chamomile, which I find soothing on its own.

The spritz of this bottle is pretty bold so one spray is probably all you will need. I have been spraying it before applying the included serum, oil and/or balm. No matter which combo of the other products I am using this first on my skin. I also have been mixing it with the Oat mask.

Calming Chamomile & Rose Geranium Hydrating Serum 4ml

This serum is super light and almost water like. It is filled with hyaluronic acid to help boost moisture in the skin. It has Chamomile, Rose Geranium and Rock Rose in it, which once again is soothing smelling as well as on the skin.

It has hyaluronic acid in it, so layering it under other moisturizers helps add more hydration to your skin. You can layer it under your moisturizers or mix it directly with them.

Shea & Starflower Calming Moisturizer 7.5ml

This is a thick balm that comes in a little tin. It isn't as firm as the cleansing balm, but almost is, you can tap it and your finger will make a dent into it. Loaded with Shea Butter, Argan Oil, Starflower Oil, and Sea Buckthorn Oil, it is super rich and leaves your skin glowing. It isn't rapidly absorbing on the skin but doesn't just sit on top either.

I really enjoy this as the humidity leaves the air and the weather gets cooler. It helps lock in moisture from my layers before but also adds a lot of rich oils to the skin.

Rosehip & Calendula Calming Face Oil 4ml

With Jojoba Oil, Calendula, Rosehip Seed Oil, Starflower Oil and Sea Buckhorn Oil this is one multifaceted face oil.  It feels light on the skin and absorbs quickly.

When my skin is super dry I like to use this after the mist and before the moisturizer, when my skin is just oil I like to use it after the spray and serum and forget the moisturizer. Either way my skin is left happy and hydrated.

Green Tea & Blue Algae Soothing Oat Mask 8g

This is a DIY mask, it comes in a powder format that you mix with your own liquid. I personally like to mix it with the face mist.

It contains Colloidal Oats, Matcha Green Tea, and Blue Green Algae. The formula is rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids, vitamins all to help sooth and protect the skin while reducing inflammation.

I found this mask easy to mix up. I like to spray the mist on my hand first and then sprinkle some powder on top and mix them together. I found it easy to apply and rinse off. Best of all my skin felt absolutely amazing after, smooth and soft without feeling dry or tight. I often find mud masks uncomfortable when I am done with them, but since this has no mud in it my skin just felt amazing.

Overall this set is  great way to try out Helena Lane and soothe your skin. I really loved how all the products worked together, how I could adapt what I use for my daily needs and how well my skin reacted to all of it. I am often not the most keen on natural products because I am allergic to a popular ingredient (cannabis/hemp) and I have reactions to things with mud in them, but these were all made with sensitive and reactive skin in mind. My skin always felt calm and soothed whenever I used them.

My favourites so far have been the mask, the cleanser and the moisturizer, that being said I love the whole set and would consider buying one when I use it up because they all work so well together.
