Aveda - Making a difference with Earth Month and How To Make Your Greasy Hair Look Great

By Wednesday, April 17, 2013 , , , , , ,

April is Earth Month and Aveda Canada has lots planned to give Mother Earth a helping hand. There is the 24-hour cut-a-thon on Earth Day, April 22, where stylists across the world at various Aveda salons will participate to rase money and attempt to make a wold record for Guniess Records. There is the amazing candle they are selling, which every penny spent will go to protecting clean water (and it is made of reclaimed glass and only $13 in Canada). There is even their I Walk For Water event that raises money for WaterCan.

Other ways Aveda is helping is by teaching us ways to make our second and third day (or even fourth or fifth day) hair look fantastic. Thus reducing water consumption (and making us look fab).

I had my second day hair styled at the CIVELLO Salon in Toronto by Aveda Creative Director Kristjan Hayden. Here is what I learned.

EASY DIY SOLUTIONS:
Featuring Aveda Canada Creative Director, Kristjan Hayden

SUPER STRAIGHT
Flatiron your hair straight and sleek.
As seen at: Derek Lam, Emilio Pucci, Lacoste, Marios Schwab, Micheal Kors, Saint Laurent
THE WET LOOK
Wet your hair with product and slick back.
As seen at: Jason Wu, Christopher Raeburn, Giambattista Balli, Haider Ackerman
THE LOW BUN
Pull your hair back and secure in a low ponytail. Use a comb to smooth any bumps before twisting your ponytail into a bun and securing with an elastic band.
As seen at: Erdem, Givenchy, Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Valentino, Versace
THE LOW PONY
Sleek ponytails secured at the nape.
As seen at: Alexander Wang, Chloe, Dior, Etro
ADD VOLUME (3 ways)
Spray volumizer in roots and blow dry. (Try: Aveda Pure Abuncance Style Prep)
Crimp roots under the part for added texture and fullness
Use Velcro rollers with Air Control hairspray. Heat and set with a blowdryer and diffuser
So what did Kristjan have planned for me? Well I got a low bun.
First he took my slightly greasy and flat hair and sprayed some Aveda Pure Abundance Style-Prep and sprayed it onto my roots to tame my oil and add some much needed volume. He then blasted it with the hair dryer to get even more volume going.
Then he took the flat iron to my hair and created some curls.
Bam, Curls! The then placed my hair in a low pony tail and teased away, apparently you can not tease enough when creating this look.
He tucked it under and created a bun by pinning it into place.
And here is the finished look. Meredith from Et Tu And You was there and here was her beautiful hair created by Kristjan.
So what I took away from this is that I do not need freshly washed hair to get a fantastic do. I also learned that second day hair is probably best anyways for any type of up do. Oh and I should go get a crimping iron some time soon.
