Beauty Vixen

Helena Lane is a British Columbia based skin care brand, it focuses on natural skin care and the power of plants.

I was lucky enough to be gifted their Calming Collection set. The set is a great introduction to their products or a fantastic travel set. The set has 6 products meant to help those with normal, eczema prone, rosacea, inflamed, red hyper-sensitive, and/or itchy skin.
The set is a complete skin care routine and should last 2 to 3 weeks if it is the only items you are using.

Jojoba & Calendula Calming Cleanser 15ml

I adore cream cleansers, but have yet to try a natural one until now. This definitely feels different then the ones I am used to. I feel there is a film left on your face if you just splash water on it to wash it off, but if you use a wash cloth to rinse it is a lot better. Either way I highly recommend double cleansing anyways, so if you do that the residue feeling wont matter.
This is a cream cleanser that is thick and dense in the tin, I genreally just glide my fingers over it to get the amount of product I need. It is made up of Calendula and Jojoba Oil.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much makeup this removed from my face (even waterproof makeup), all of it. It left my skin feeling clean and smooth with a residue remaining on the skin (as mentioned above).

Calming Chamomile & Rose Geranium Hydrating Mist 30ml

This is a mist spray that can be used before moisturizing to add to they hydration process or to mildly cleanse the skin. It has a mild scent of Geranium and Chamomile, which I find soothing on its own.

The spritz of this bottle is pretty bold so one spray is probably all you will need. I have been spraying it before applying the included serum, oil and/or balm. No matter which combo of the other products I am using this first on my skin. I also have been mixing it with the Oat mask.

Calming Chamomile & Rose Geranium Hydrating Serum 4ml

This serum is super light and almost water like. It is filled with hyaluronic acid to help boost moisture in the skin. It has Chamomile, Rose Geranium and Rock Rose in it, which once again is soothing smelling as well as on the skin.

It has hyaluronic acid in it, so layering it under other moisturizers helps add more hydration to your skin. You can layer it under your moisturizers or mix it directly with them.

Shea & Starflower Calming Moisturizer 7.5ml

This is a thick balm that comes in a little tin. It isn't as firm as the cleansing balm, but almost is, you can tap it and your finger will make a dent into it. Loaded with Shea Butter, Argan Oil, Starflower Oil, and Sea Buckthorn Oil, it is super rich and leaves your skin glowing. It isn't rapidly absorbing on the skin but doesn't just sit on top either.

I really enjoy this as the humidity leaves the air and the weather gets cooler. It helps lock in moisture from my layers before but also adds a lot of rich oils to the skin.

Rosehip & Calendula Calming Face Oil 4ml

With Jojoba Oil, Calendula, Rosehip Seed Oil, Starflower Oil and Sea Buckhorn Oil this is one multifaceted face oil.  It feels light on the skin and absorbs quickly.

When my skin is super dry I like to use this after the mist and before the moisturizer, when my skin is just oil I like to use it after the spray and serum and forget the moisturizer. Either way my skin is left happy and hydrated.

Green Tea & Blue Algae Soothing Oat Mask 8g

This is a DIY mask, it comes in a powder format that you mix with your own liquid. I personally like to mix it with the face mist.

It contains Colloidal Oats, Matcha Green Tea, and Blue Green Algae. The formula is rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids, vitamins all to help sooth and protect the skin while reducing inflammation.

I found this mask easy to mix up. I like to spray the mist on my hand first and then sprinkle some powder on top and mix them together. I found it easy to apply and rinse off. Best of all my skin felt absolutely amazing after, smooth and soft without feeling dry or tight. I often find mud masks uncomfortable when I am done with them, but since this has no mud in it my skin just felt amazing.

Overall this set is  great way to try out Helena Lane and soothe your skin. I really loved how all the products worked together, how I could adapt what I use for my daily needs and how well my skin reacted to all of it. I am often not the most keen on natural products because I am allergic to a popular ingredient (cannabis/hemp) and I have reactions to things with mud in them, but these were all made with sensitive and reactive skin in mind. My skin always felt calm and soothed whenever I used them.

My favourites so far have been the mask, the cleanser and the moisturizer, that being said I love the whole set and would consider buying one when I use it up because they all work so well together.

Live Clean has been my go-to for Canadian made, clean body products for a while now, which is why I was so excited to see that they launched a line of deodorants.
With Baking Soda and Corn Starch, these sticks help keep you smelling great without being antiperspirant. They help stop you from smelling, which in reality is what a deodorant is supposed to do. The bonus with these is the corn starch and baking soda that help absorb moisture, thus keep you smelling great even longer.

The sticks feel like any other antiperspirant or deodorant stick, maybe less slick or waxy in texture.
As for the wear, that is where I was really impressed. I know deodorants are not antiperspirants and that I should not expect the same results, but I got almost spot on results. I wore this on several hard work days where I was sweating and really should have had some mild BO by the end of it only to smell like absolutely nothing. Nothing! I made my co-worker smell my pits to make sure I wasn't being biased, and she also stated my pits smelt like nothing. She said it was like I just had a shower. I also made Mr. Fox smell my pits a few times, he was hesitant but agreed I smelt like nothing. The fact that they both said nothing was probably the most impressive part, they didn't say fine or ok, their actual words were "nothing". Which really is the best I could ever hope for. Side note, I was also declared weird by both of them for making them smell my armpits.
Powder Clean:
I was honestly expecting a strong baby powder scent that would flash me back to 1992 when I used Teen Spirit's Baby Powder Soft antiperspirant, but I was pleasantly surprised that it was a soft mellow scent that smelt clean and just a tad bit like a baby powder like scent.
Sparkling Citrus:
When I think citrus, I usually think a mix of orange and lemon, but this deodorant has a bit more of a complete citrus scent which includes grapefruit. I am not a massive grapefruit fan, it really is my least favourite fruit, but the scent in this stick is mild enough that I really don't mind it at all. It smells fully citrus, fresh and generally clean.
Cool & Fresh:
This one falls into a typical aqua scent category, it smells a bit like a manly deodorant, but it is not too strong that it is overwhelming when applied. By far, this is my favourite scent.
Fragrance-Free:
There isn't much to say about this one, it is fragrance-free as the name states. It has no scent to it at all. Despite this, it still helps aids in keeping me staying fresh and smelling great.
Overall I am incredibly impressed with these sticks. Never did I think I would love a deodorant as much as I love antiperspirants, but here I am tossing my antiperspirant and using deodorant thanks to Live Clean. I also really like that there is a fragrance-free version for those who either do not want a scent or are allergic/sensitive to scent, that is a really big bonus.

Have you tried Natural Deodorants? What do you look for in them?

Live Clean makes some pretty fantastic products, today I am going to look at their Foaming Hand Wash.

Live Clean already makes a great line of hand washes already, but these ones are different because they are self-foaming. Just one pump gives you a lush handful of foamy soap. All of the hand washes do an excellent job of cleansing my hands, while not stripping them of moisture. There isn't anything harsh in them that ends up drying them out, but they still work extremely well at getting my hands clean. Gentle and effective, it's a perfect combo.

Vanilla Bean & Coconut:
Vanilla is a classic scent that is pretty much universally pleasing, mixed with the warmth of coconut it makes for a darn nice hand wash scent. I brought this one into work so I could get some co-workers opinions on the soaps. They really liked the mellow and warm light scent and how well the wash worked. Since we have to wash our hands dozens of times in a day, it was really nice to use a wash that wasn't drying and was already foamy. Also, the one pump is all you need factor was great, we weren't overusing product anymore (which results in extra time rinsing and waisting soap).

Lemon Mint:
Lemon and mint are two of my favourite scents/foods/flavours. I grew up munching mint that grew in my childhood garden and still grow three different types every summer. Lemon, on the other hand, is just clean, fresh and bright and maybe one of my favourite fruits. This hand wash has both these favourites in one and it does it pretty darn well. Neither scent is overwhelming, but they are prominent enough that you can smell them, and they smell nice together. I hear a lot of people like this one in the kitchen, but I have been keeping it in our main washeroom and both Mr. Fox and I have been enjoying it quite a lot.

Neither scent is overwhelming, it is a light scent that smells nice while using it and lingers lightly after your hands are dry.

White Tea & Cherry:
Of all the scents, this one excited me the most. I love cherries and I love tea even more. This is a floral-sweet scent that works really well together. Light and clean, it really works as a hand wash. I put this one in our newly redone powder room so that guest can experience the clean floral-fruity scent when visiting

On top of all how well the hand washes work and how nice they smell, there are some other reasons to really like it.
  • Canadian Made - Live Clean is a great Canadian brand and I love it for that.
  • Plant Derived
  • SLS Free
  • Petrolatum Free
  • DEA Free
  • Paraben Free
  • Silicone Free
  • Phthalate Free
  • Phosphate Free
  • Dye Free
  • Pure Vegan
  • Never Tested on Animals
  • Contains Biodegradable Ingredients - which means it is safe for septic tanks & camping
  • Dermatologist Tested
Overall I am extremely impressed with these hand washes. I am not usually a huge fan of foaming handwashes, I find they don't do the best job of cleaning and require many pumps to get a good amount of soap on my hands, which leads to waste. But Live Clean impresses me that I only need one pump and it is always the right amount. The scents are light and not overpowering, the formula is cleansing but not stripping. My hands are sore no matter how much I use it, and that is a good thing. Plus it never hurts that it is a Canadian brand that makes environmentally friendly products.

Live Clean is a great Canadian brand that makes hair care, body care, baby care and now sun care products right here in Canada.

Their Mineral Clay Rebalancing Shampoo and Conditioner help keep your scalp free of build-up while simultaneously hydrating your dry ends. All without using Petrolatum, DEA, Parabens, Silicones, Phthalate, Phosphate, dyes, all while being biodegradable and vegan. It uses 3 mineral clays to detoxify the oily and buildup parts while Vitamin E and  Provitamin B5 to hydrate. Apple Cider Vinegar, Witch Hazel and Tea Tree oil help keep your hair healthy and glowing.
To say these products were made for me might be a bit of a stretch, but my hair and scalp have really been loving them.

I usually wash my hair only two times a week, which means my scalp gets quite oily and can have some styling product buildup (can we say dry shampoo and heat protectants). The shampoo manages to get my scalp and roots so clean it feels amazing for days afterwards.

In the past I hated conditioners that did not have silicone in them, I found my hair wasn't left smooth and was hard to comb out. Live Clean seems to make conditioners that make me love that they don't have silicone in them. I absolutely love this conditioner. My hair is highly conditioned but not weighted down, not greasy, it is light and bouncy. My waves are more curly and I am really happy about it.
Overall I am really loving this line, I will definitely be repurchasing it because my hair feels more amazing every time I use it.  I also really love what ingredients that these products have in them, as well as what they don't have in them. Being a Canadian brand that is made in Canada is also a big plus, I always prefer to buy Canadian made and Live Clean always makes that an easy choice.
