The Stayfree Challenge

Stayfree recently asked me to take the Stayfree Challenge and I accepted. So what does this entail? Pretty much I get to do a blue water test with 3 different brands of maxi pads. And you know what? I'm actually quite excited about it.

Pads have always been the product of choice for me when my time of the month rolls around and to be honest I have never developed any brand loyalty or preference. I've pretty much bought whatever ultra thin was on sale or the stores generic version. They all pretty much seemed the same to me. That's why I wanted to do the challenge, to see if my complete neutrality could be swayed.
The challenge puts two top competitors pads against Stayfree Ultra Thin Regular with wings. Competitor #1 I couldn't figure out, but #2 seemed familiar and was more like the style I usually buy (brand name or generic).
Step 1: Place pads on mat.
Step 2: Pour 5 ml of blue liquid on the centre of  each pad and wait 30 seconds to let the liquid absorb.
Step 3: Place a blotting sheet on the centre of each pad and 5lb weight. Then wait 5 seconds.
Step 4: Remove each weight and see results on the blotting sheet.
So what do I draw from these results? That Stayfree did a significantly better job of holding the liquid in the centre of the pad as well as in its core so none of it bleed out onto to the blotting sheet. Competitor #1 failed horribly at providing any type of moisture wicking or locking away from the skin.  Competitor #2 was better but still got all over the blotting sheet. Finally the Stayfree barely left any traces of blue on its blotting sheet.
My final verdict, I am impressed. I really didn't think there was any difference between maxi pad brands, but this test clearly shows a dramatic difference in absorption and wicking capabilities. I am definitely going to give Stayfree a try on my next cycle.
