Weekend deals and steals
By Jill Oliver-Fox Monday, October 18, 2010 dollar store, lashes, lipstick, makeup haul, Mascara, NYX, revlon
Over this past weekend I managed to pick up some makeup goodies. I am quite proud of myself since I am waiting for the IMATS.
NYX Lashes:
I went to Pacific Mall for some shopping with my man and found a store that sells all of NYX line. I mean ALL of it! I picked up the EL 104 lashes for $7.99. I wanted them for halloween, other wise I would have waited until after the IMATS. Regardless I have never seen their lashes in Canada, or many of these items. Now I know where to get them, so I can go back any time.
Revlon Lipsticks:
Walmart is having a sale, 40% off all Revlon lip products. I already buy my Revlon lipsticks at Walmart because they are much cheeper than at the drugstores, but an additional 40% made my weekend.

- Revlon Matte Lipstick - Nude Attitude
- Revlon Colorburst Lipstick - Raspberry
- Revlon Colorburst Lipstick - Blusb
- Revlon Colorburst Lipstick - Soft Nude
They all came to just under $5 before tax, so I felt that was a great deal.
Sally Hansen:
This one I picked up at the Dollarama for $2. It is a smaller mascara (oh how I love smaller tubes of mascara) and it is in black/brown. It is part of Sally Hansen's Natural Beauty, Inspired By Carmindy line that seems to keep on popping up at dollaramas lately. The wand is fine but seems extremely goopy when I removed it fro the tube. It is almost like the part that is supposed to remove the excess product does not really work. I feel I am going to have to wipe a lot of excess off before each use.
Halloween
By Jill Oliver-Fox Saturday, October 16, 2010 costume, halloween, Mac, sfx makeup
In the past Halloween hasn't meant much to me, but since finishing makeup school it gives me a great chance to show off my creative side with special effects makeup.
Last year I went as a zebra, I was inspired by the face-charts that Mac had last year to do it. I used Kett airbrush hydro in white as a base, I ran low near the end, that is why my neck is more faded. For the lines I wanted to airbrush them on, but since it was on my own face it was too difficult, so I used Mac Fluidline in Blacktrack. I had to powder a lot to make it dry to last, I honestly would use Mac Pro Chromaline or acrylics this year if I were to do it again.
My partner, Richard, went as a dead gangster. This just involved him dressing as a gangster and me adding a simple bullet wound and some blood
I also dress my dog up, this has become a tradition. The first year I made him a Monty costume and he went as 'Monty the Mounty'. Last year it was a stripper aka 'The Full Monty'. This year I will stray from the Monty themed costumes since I didn't feel like making him one. He is going to go to work as a frog prince.
This year my plan is to go as Princess Peach from Super Mario, but that I would have been attacked by Bowser leaving me with scratches and burns. This is going to involve a pink dress, a crown, white gloves, 3rd degree, ridged collodion, mac gloss and some fresh scab. I am trying to convince Richard to go as Mario, but I doubt this will happen, so I want to find a Bowser doll to accompany me.
I'm also doing my sister and her fiancee's makeup, they are going as Nav've from Avatar, so I will be airbrushing that on for the most part. I love to airbrush over grease paint. It lasts, it doesn't budge and it is light, so you don't notice it all night. If you do blow your nose (like I did many times last year) it wont ruin the look.
Happy Tick or Treating everyone, let me know what it is you plan on going as this year.

IMATS Toronto 2010
By Jill Oliver-Fox Thursday, October 14, 2010 imats toronto, NYX, stila, temptu
The IMATS are just around the corner here in Toronto. This year to be held in a proper convention location and not some horrid hole in the EX or a night club like years past.
New and exciting exhibitors are also coming. NARS, NYX and Stila will all have booths this year for the first time (NARS was in a booth for The Bay last year).
Here are some of the exciting things I am looking forward to:
Temptu:
Always a must for me. I am a huge fan of their S/B line. This year I have added quite a number of foundation to my personal collection so I will not be picking up any S/B for personal use, but I will pick up more of the S/B primer. I want to also try the Invisible Difference Setting Powder and their airbrush moisturizer. Apparently this moisturizer is so light that it even be applied after makeup for touch ups throughout the day.
Crown Brushes:
Oh my Crown. Not much else can be said here but I love Crown. I have ordered from them in the past, but I prefer to pick out my brushes in person, so this is the perfect chance for me. I have a list of about 40 brushes I already want to get. My must haves are a clone of Mac's 217, 214, and 224 brushes.
NYX:
Acording to the layout of the vendors for this event, NYX has by far the biggest table. I want to pick up a bunch of lashes (if they have them), some blushes, lipsticks, glosses, jumbo liners and lip liners. I also love their nail polishes, so grabbing some of them would also be great.
CoverFx:
Coverfx is tempting me to visit their booth and buy the pro kit that you can only get at the IMATS shows. I haven't been doing much makeup on other people lately (and when I do I tend to use Temptu's S/B airbrush foundation) so picking it up seems a little silly. I need to get some foundations and concealer for personal use, so I will be going by there for sure.
Ben Nye:
I am considering picking up some Ben Nye shadows and other products at their booths.
Kryolan:
I do love Kryolan, I think I might not need anything though. But checking them out never hurts.
Naimie's:
I am looking for a large freestyle palette. Naimie's sells lots of pallets so I will definitely be popping in there to see if there is something that catches my eye.

Hard Candy - So Baked Bronzer - Tiki Review
By Jill Oliver-Fox Sunday, October 10, 2010 bronze, Hard Candy
For the last month and half I've been using Hard Candy's So Baked Bronzer in Tiki as an illuminator/bronzer and I've been loving it.
Tiki is the lightest shade in the brand, it isn't dark enough on me to really be a bronzer but not light enough to be a highlighter. It is more of an illuminator for my skin tone, but for others with darker skin (I'm NC15) it would be a great highlighter. It really does match my skin tone just right.
It reminds me a lot of a Mineralized Skin Finish crossed with a Mineralized Skin Finish Natural (the shimmer of the former and the colour of the latter). It isn't too shimmer and just gives the perfect glow.
It can be used wet or dry, although I haven't tried it wet yet. I've also used it on the eyes as a simple eyeshadow or on the brow bone.
I am really loving the look it gives my skin.
TKB Trading Order
By Jill Oliver-Fox Tuesday, October 05, 2010 makeup haul, tkb tradingMy TKB Trading Order
I ordered a while back some micas from TKB Trading. Today it arrived.
My mini mortar and pestle. So tiny and cute.
1 ounce of matte texture base.
Green Glitter
Various glitters and hilties
The colour pop! collection, all 1 tablespoon.
The whole thing (minus the mortar and pestle).
I picked up some stacking jars and a cases a while back at a craft sore. I plan on mixing a bunch of colours up in the near future.
MAC Pro Order Haul
By Jill Oliver-Fox Monday, October 04, 2010 beauty powder, grease paint stick, mac Disney Venomous Villains, mac pro, makeup haul, mixing medium matte
I placed an order last week for some goodies from the Mac Pro site.
Here they are:
Greasepaint stick in "Slick Black" this is from the Disney Venomous Villains collection and part of Dr. Facilier collection. This is one of the few items from the Disney collection that doesn't have a character on it so pro discounts did apply. It is a flat black grease paint stick, I feel that it has a lot of potential in my life, and for smokey eyes.
Beauty Powder in "Briar Rose" is also from the Disney Venomous Villains collection and belongs to Maleficent collection. It is a very pretty purple/pink beauty powder. I paid full price for it (a SHOCKING thing for me and mac). I love the sheer purpley/pink shade with a hint of shimmer to it. I only have one other beauty powder (from the Ungaro collection) and I love it. I also want the option to swap my MSF nat into a mirrored compact for travel, this will most certainly fill that void.
Mixing Medium in Matte. This is a new pro item, it also comes in a Shine version. I chose just to get one for the time being and see how I like it. I am kinda shocked that I didn't get the Shine one simply because I buy anything with the name Shine in it (it is my cat's name).
It is wax bases and sort of reminds me of the texture of lip balm when pigments are mixed with it. I have to play with it some more to see if I like it or not and how well it lasts.
